Colin Brougham Sep 16, 2010 5:19 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Check out Pixelan (AnyFX, 3D Six-Pack, SpiceMaster, CreativeEase) or Digieffects (Delirium will be available for CS5 this fall) or some of the Trapcode/Red Giant (Shine, Starglow, etc.) plug-ins.
You didn't really specify what sort of effects you're after, but that's a start.

SFL46 Sep 16, 2010 9:44 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Have a look at BorisFX BCC version 7 package--it contains a large library of effects, which have presets that can be modified. Note that at this point in time BorisFx other effects packages will not work with PRPro CS5.
If you are looking for a image stabilzer pluggin, ProDads Mercali v2 works in Cs5.

shooternz Sep 16, 2010 1:27 PM (in response to Studio North Films)What kind of "effects" are you dissapointed that PPRO does not include?
Most innovative and distinctive effects are created from scratch by artists ...and many great effects are not even noticeable in a movie. Its an art.

Colin Brougham Sep 16, 2010 4:22 PM (in response to Studio North Films)Baz,
Definitely check out Digieffect Delirium; you get about 40 plugins in one bundle for a decent price. Right now, it's only 32-bit, but 64-bit/CS5 support is supposed to be coming along this fall. The DE plug ins can be used in both AE and PPro, come with presets, and a lot of the effects automatically animate. With a couple tweaks you can generate a pretty unique look.
Digital Juice has the Delirium set for $99 right now, with a free upgrade to the CS5 versions when they're available; that's a pretty good deal considering they're usually $300.

Todd_Kopriva Sep 16, 2010 9:07 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)One reason for not having a lot of canned effects in Premiere Pro is that there's a whole effects application in the suite with it.

JaysonM-Y Sep 17, 2010 3:19 PM (in response to Studio North Films)Another benefit to making effects using base line plugins is that your project can travel to hell and back without worrying about missing effects. As long as it's the same Creative suite version

FelixUnderwood Sep 18, 2010 1:43 PM (in response to Studio North Films)Baz,
I too feel like the effects/transitions in PPro are pretty limited and haven't changed much in many CS versions. Probably because Adobe makes After Effects for that reason, but AE is it's own beast and I'm looking for effects and xitions that are way simpler and faster to use. And unfortunately for us Matrox users, many of the cool Matrox effects, like Shine, are history with CS5. So, I too am very happy with Boris Continuum Complete. In no time you have a nice looking gleam on text that I have to believe would be much more time consuming to deal with in After Effects. I have yet to migrate to CS5, but BCC 6 is great, so I imagine BCC 7 is even better. And it is one of the few Boris apps that is currently CS5 ready. Red is another fine program from Boris, albeit more expensive. Tons of transitions. They give you so many that even though I find 2/3rds are too hokey to use, the other third are great! Red, however, is not CS5 ready but is expected to be before the end of the year.
