1. Re: Why do my imported files or created titles always go to some random bin and not the one I want?
Ann Bens Sep 22, 2010 1:18 PM (in response to Switch7)I have no trouble importing files. I select the bin and import.
What if you double clicked on the bin first and then double click in the empty space in the new tab to import?

Switch7 Sep 22, 2010 3:04 PM (in response to Ann Bens)That works if I double click the bin first but I shouldn't have to do that, I never have had to in the past. Same goes for creating titles.

jeremy d. Sep 22, 2010 3:36 PM (in response to Switch7)Can you provide a screen shot of your bin layout?
I can successfully:
- Right-click in the empty bin area, and a file will import to that level
- Double-click in a bin, and the file will import to that level
- Right-click on a bin icon, and the file will import into that bin
Without seeing your bin structure and layout, I cannot give much guidance.

4. Re: Why do my imported files or created titles always go to some random bin and not the one I want?
Switch7 Sep 22, 2010 4:00 PM (in response to jeremy d.)My Bin Structure is pretty straight forward. Nothing special the only layered bins are my footage bins where they are separated into scenes.
Your import scenarios are what they should be and what I have had in the past with CS2 and 3. But with 5 it has been a no go. Where do the titles you create go? Mine go into the random default folder. Where as before I use to be able to highlight the bin I wanted the title to be created in, now that doesn't work.

5. Re: Why do my imported files or created titles always go to some random bin and not the one I want?
jeremy d. Sep 22, 2010 4:17 PM (in response to Switch7)We can deal with the titles in a bit, but first the Importing:
This may be redundant, but please bear with me --
You're saying that when you right-click directly on that AE Comps bin, choose Import, find a file, etc., that the file appears at the top level of the Project Panel, rather than inside that bin?
If you right-click on a bin icon, the bin name and the rest of that line should light up, and then I'd expect the file to arrive in that bin. If you click somewhere and the bin does not become selected, then you're not importing into that bin, you're importing into the highest visible level in the Panel.

6. Re: Why do my imported files or created titles always go to some random bin and not the one I want?
Switch7 Sep 22, 2010 4:26 PM (in response to jeremy d.)Close.
With this specific bin structure, if I import as you described the file imports to the Reception Bin. I tried the same proceedure with highlighting>righ clicking> and importing, files to all bin levels even to the root level not inside a bin and it still goes to the reception bin. So for what ever reason for this project I am working on now the Reception Bin has become the default bin.
This holds true for titles as well, they get created in the reception bin.I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I presort my footage into folders then "import folder" into the footage bin. I thought it might have something to do with the last bin I created or imported became a default bin but in this scenario. The Receception bin is the second to last folder I imported/created.

7. Re: Why do my imported files or created titles always go to some random bin and not the one I want?
jeremy d. Sep 22, 2010 4:31 PM (in response to Switch7)OK, that's random.
We don't even have a place to choose a default import location, and the way you sorted or created the bins shouldn't matter at all.
I am at a loss here, but I'll keep looking at it.

Switch7 Sep 22, 2010 4:34 PM (in response to jeremy d.)Your telling me. I think I used the word random in my original post LOL
Don't forget annoying as well.
