1. Re: Unable to monitor PP CS4 timeline on my TV
Michelmnr Sep 30, 2010 7:24 AM (in response to Michelmnr)Yes I have answered my question (somehow with forum help though) I did not realised I had 2 Firewire porst and after reading something on the forum I thought of plugging my cable on the other port (an old analogue video capture card I hardly use) and my display (through camcorder) was back!

3. Re: Unable to monitor PP CS4 timeline on my TV
Michelmnr Sep 30, 2010 9:09 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I rather feel stupid about it, just the same thanks :). This was actually done using my old analog TV I wonder how I will get a digital TV directly connected to the pc. as I mentioned b4 somewhere I wonder if adding my old ati radeon card that has a DVI output and so going DVI to TV HDMI I'd have any success to get the timeline through it and have my two monitors working properly.
I also noticed last night that some PPR done with AVCHD in Wide screen would display on the TV normally but stood still on the Project monitor where it only moved as it did on the TV at the very end of the project! Just wonder if it was too much for the PC ( W7 - 64 Bits - 8gb ram Intel 5 process.) ?
Yes if I'm going to get this kind or project I really should preview them on appropriate TV to have the right idea about the result.

Well, AVCHD is very, very CPU intensive to playback, due to the extreme compression/decompression, but I would have thought that an i5 would be up to that task. Is your i5 a Quad-core?
Many feel that only a fast i7 is truly capable of working smoothly with AVCHD, but many have had good success with fast, older Quad-cores. I do not know the i5's, but would have thought it was adequate too. Maybe that assumption is incorrect?
Good luck,
Hunt

5. Re: Unable to monitor PP CS4 timeline on my TV
Harm Millaard Oct 1, 2010 9:48 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)i5 should work OK on a properly tuned system, but the lack of HT IIRC, the limited cache, the limited memory and the limited memory speed make it far from optimal. If the system is not properly tuned, then these lacking properties translate into mediocre performance with a demanding codec like AVCHD.

Michelmnr-wmHeJf Oct 2, 2010 4:06 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Thank you Guys, this is something I believe too, I have some regret to jump so quickly on HD, I should have left it for the Pros! For me the whole experience has put me way back in many areas (inc. finances !). Already a slow learner, it has been almost like starting from scratch again. Perhaps my greatest regret about the whole thing was to miss a bear on the road side hills in Canada as my "high definition" camcorder does not have a viewer and you rely only on the screen - quite a challenge to a "hit" a bear at 2 or 3 100 meters. Our club will not deal with HD either! And I have not been on Blue Ray Tech. yet! But luckily it'll come good in some future times.
Yes "Fine tuning" is probably much needed to handle these clips! And this is another challenge!
Any thoughts about using an extra display card to go PC DVI to Digital TV HDMI? Thanks again. MM
