1. Re: Difficulty Linking Photos moved to new EHD to LR
Franz Leu Oct 1, 2010 6:30 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)If you right-click on a folder in the library instead of one image only and relocate that folder, it will relocate everything in that folder.
If you have altered the folder structure, you will have go through every folder that has changed its position in the structure. If you have moved images between folders, you will have to relocate every single image.
It's always best to move images from within LR only.

renevgag Oct 1, 2010 6:39 AM (in response to Franz Leu)As far as I can tell in Lightroom you can only move 1 folder at a
time so with hundreds of folders......well.
Or can anyone give a solution?

Point to the top level folder and move that ... all subfolders will move with it.
If the top level folder doesn't appear in your Lightroom Folder Panel, right-click on any folder and select "Show Parent Folder".

renevgag Oct 1, 2010 7:34 AM (in response to dj_paige)True, but if you want to change the folder structure you can't unless you move the folder one at a time to the new top level folder. Still a lot of work if the best way to handle the files is within Lightroom.

5. Re: Difficulty Linking Photos moved to new EHD to LR
Franz Leu Oct 1, 2010 7:45 AM (in response to renevgag)Changing the folder structure is not a common task in LR. Why? Because image management in LR does not rely on the folder structure. In fact, it is rather irrelevant. IMHO a certain structure is just for us humans to make the transition easier from times where a smart structure was very important.
To be honest, I as well still do care about the structure - I'm just not changing it - it stays the same it was for years.

renevgag Oct 1, 2010 8:05 AM (in response to Franz Leu)Oke, this will probably work for Matthew Kraus, when a harddisk gets too small and everything is moved to a new bigger harddisk.
But still, in many strings it's suggested to do your filemanagement from within Lightroom and since there is a "Folders" tab it should be manageble.
I for one tried to change the folders from "DVD01 - DVD34" to the folders: "2002 - 2010". A more logical setup for the folders because I don't burn the files to DVDs anymore.
