    Unexpected color shift

    peterpica Community Member

Did a presentation folder update from a supplied AI/PDF; changed cymk pix, did minor edits, etc. All looked great from first proof to final. Did a hard copy proof on my personal Epson 4000 and it was fine. Got hard copy print proof from Partner Printing and pix turned south with an awful yellow (really bad) cast. Anybody any clue for possible problem? Solution? It was saved as a press-quality, PDF with 'working CYMK US Web Coated' etc. from PP made their hard copy proof.

This can be caused by saving a CMYK file with an embedded colour profile.

Some rips are sensitive to profiles and will produce a cast like you describe.

The general rule is to use embedded profiles only on RGB files (so that they can be correctly converted to CMYK).

I have seen this kind of thing happen several times – usually the cast is towards magenta but I've seen yellow too.

In my books CMYK files with colour profiles are a no-no.

Thanks Steve. I'm resubmitting the file, saved as you suggest (no profile)...

I'm also awaiting Partner's response to the problem as the job's on hold until resolution.

            Regards.
