Rowby Goren Oct 10, 2010 11:08 AM (in response to Rowby Goren)Perhaps someone would want to confirm this issue (for example an Adobe AfterEffects rep here)...?
If so, please test on CS5 WIndows 7, which is my system.
Here is a link to the Digeffects Camera mapper product page:
http://digieffects.com/product/camera_mapper
Here is a link to their camera mapper free trial versins: http://digieffects.com/buy/free_trial_versions
Here is a link to their Mona Lisa tutorial and download of files.

I would appreciate knowing your results. Specifically if you are getting the crash and error message when you try to save the project.

3. Re: Is anyone successfully using Digieffects Camera Mapper with CS5
Rowby Goren Oct 10, 2010 11:26 AM (in response to Rowby Goren)I downloaded the Mona Lisa tutorial and project files from the Digieffects website.
As you will see, if you download and open the tutoral files , the camera mapper effect is already applied (of course make sure you already have the Digieffects Camera mapper plug-in or demo version already installed on your computer...).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlkwT70TKFY
If you look at the above video, I have done nothing to the project. All I do is save it -- and After Effects CS5 on windows 7 crashes.
Again, I would appreciate someone else with CS5 windows 7 doing the same test of Digieffects Camera mapper to see if it works ok on their installation.
Regards

rowby Oct 10, 2010 7:24 PM (in response to Rowby Goren)As yet another test I installed Digieffects on a second Windows 7 CS5 computer. As you can see it crashed my installation of aftereffects.

I have informed Digieffects support about this thread, and hopefully they will stop by and add their comments.

tim visterin Oct 19, 2010 11:26 AM (in response to rowby)Rowby,
I had the same problem, the only difference is that I purchased CS5 and camera mapper.
I run a mac so the problem must be "plugin related."
( If I look at your screenpics the same errors appear on my screen and after that after effects crashes.)
I contacted Digieffects 3 times but I got no answer or message that they are going to look into it.
I keep you posted with my screenpics and see if we can get this fixed.

rowby Oct 20, 2010 1:37 PM (in response to tim visterin)Hi Tim,
Interesting you are having the problem on the MAc. The digieeffects website says it is compatible with CS5 -- I just figured maybe it was a Windows issue.
Digieeffects support acknowledged the problem to me and said their enginer was "looking into it" and a solution was going to happen quickly.
But I have not yet heard from them with a a solution.
I'll send another support request now and hopefully they will have an answer.
I will keep you and this forum updated.

rowby Oct 25, 2010 6:17 AM (in response to rowby)I'm sorry to say I have not heard from Digieffects regarding Windows 7 CS5 compatibility with Camera Mapper.
It is strange because I've had at least one phone call from them, and then a few weeks ago they said they confirmed there was a problem and their engineer was working on it, and I should expect to receive an update of the plug-in that works with Windows 7 CS5.
Since then I haven't heard a peep, even though I sent them 2 follow up support requests.
In my case I was testing a demo, but Digieffects support said the demo was the same as the non-demo version (except for the demo watermark).
Below is a link to Digieffects' compatibility page which shows that Camera Mapper is compatible with CS5.
http://www.digieffects.com/support/compatibility
Their silence on this issue, after their assurances to me that a fix is eminent, is baffling.
Below is Digieffects support's last communication with me, on October 11.

Rowby,
I think the engineer has this one figured out. Turned out to be a problem in the plugin- I will send you an updated one at some point today as soon as I recieve it from the engineer. Thanks for your patience and help with this one

tim visterin Oct 25, 2010 6:56 AM (in response to rowby)Rowby,
I got one guy working on my case. His name is called Brandon Smith. It takes him ages to get back to me.
I just send him my project files to see if he can fix this but I have serious doubt.
The convincing part:"it is not a mac nor pc related mistake but a plugin error;we both work on the pc and mac."
I got the same error mistakes.
I am really not happy either with their customer support.
If by the end of the month this problem is not fixed I will ask my money back.
Let us see what the future will bring us.
enclosed you'll find the same error mistakes you encounterd.
Keep you updated.

Another question for you.
Could you please keep me informed what caused the problem?
I am really interested what caused the crash, the plugin or my MAC?
Thank you,

tim visterin Oct 26, 2010 11:17 AM (in response to digieffects_dustin)All right,
Round 2 I guess...
Dustin,
Sad to inform you it's still not working:
1. May be I am doing something wrong. I inputed my serial number manually in apps/digieffects/support/Camera Mapper Serializer...
Hope I am doing this the right way as I am not sure wether I am going to be given a new serial number. Anyway I still get the watermark.
2. I replaced the old plugin with the new one but it didn't help. I still get no reflection on my solid BUT After effects didn't crash.
As I told you I am not sure if I am doing it the right way... That is why I gave you this link where you can download a zip file with all the screenpics of the after effects interface + project file and media.

Hope to hear from you soon.

blueroad Oct 26, 2010 11:40 AM (in response to rowby)Just got an email from Digieffects with a fixed version.
Here is the updated version of Camera Mapper. You can just replace the plugin in your plugins folder with this one-

18. Re: Is anyone successfully using Digieffects Camera Mapper with CS5
digieffects_dustin Oct 26, 2010 12:08 PM (in response to tim visterin)Hey Tim,
Here is some light on the problem from Matt the digieffects engineer-
"Camera mapper has to save some data in each project that only it uses, in the AE Plugin jargon it's called arbitrary data and the plug-in needs its own routines to handle saving and loading the arbitrary data. When AE gets a command to save the project, it sends the command to our plug-in saying "hey we need all your data"; for some reason in CS5 this routine was being called twice and on the second time around was passing some data that wasn't correct (specifically, it was empty). When computers get memory that is empty but is supposed to have data in it, it's almost guaranteed to crash, and the error checking in Camera Mapper wasn't there to catch that specific error since it never appeared in previous versions.
I added some error checking so Camera Mapper checks to make sure the data is there and if not, it skips the part where it tries to read empty memory.Hope this makes sense!"Are you still having problems serializing? If so, please send me an email at dustin@digieffects.com and I will get you a new one outside the forumDustin -
19. Re: Is anyone successfully using Digieffects Camera Mapper with CS5
digieffects_dustin Oct 28, 2010 3:02 PM (in response to tim visterin)Hey Tim,
I looked at your project file and I think I figured out what was wrong. In the Camera Mapper effect controls, you had the projection layer option set to "Reflection Layer", which is the solid that your projecting on. This is not right, you want the projection layer = The picture that you are projecting, so in the case of this project file "_MG_1470.jpg" . That should successfully project your picture on to the solid. Does it work for you?
The updated build fixed should have fixed the crashing problem for everybody? Please let me know if you are still having issues or have any suggestions.
Again, the fixed plugins are @

Thank you guys for your patience in the resolution of the issue. We appreciate it your help in making our plugins more stable.
Happy Camera Mapping
