1. Re: How to delede (cut) a part inside an image
emil emil Oct 16, 2010 10:31 AM (in response to on5lb)Unless you have something special in mind when you say "Cut" :-), select the part you are interested in and choose Edit > Cut or press Ctrl + X on your keyboard. And have in mind that you will learn much faster the basics if you read the help files first.
and by the way, what is "Photoshop CS4 extreme"?

on5lb Oct 16, 2010 12:22 PM (in response to emil emil)Hi,
I checked the search forum before asking help.
But suppose everybody is finding there solution into the help files...you will be unnecessay, right.
Thanks for you reply, and you're right, i "intended" to write Ps CS4 Extended (sorry).
But comming back to my problem:
I do have a specific background image (1890x1182px at 200ppi) which i would like to use as a frame 32px wide.
I want to cut the unnecessary part inside.
What tool are you using to "select" the part to cut ?
Sorry for your time.
Regards,
Jean

3. Re: How to delede (cut) a part inside an image
emil emil Oct 16, 2010 12:38 PM (in response to on5lb)One way to select this is:
Ctrl + a to select all
Ctrl + t to transform selection
In the Transform Tool's options if W and H are not pixels, right click and choose pixels, then type the desired pixels which is your dimensions minus 32 and when done press Enter to apply the transformation
Finally press Delete to get rid of the image in the selection. Using Cut will also remove the image but it keeps it in memory so you can paste it or use somewhere else.
Hope that helps

on5lb Oct 16, 2010 1:10 PM (in response to emil emil)Hi emil,
My apologies for your time, but i'm unable to succeed
I followed your advice but the original image is silply reduced to the dimension i want to cut !
The background is white with the original image reduced.
The option to delete is grey (unusable)
I have to make more tests but it should be a simple procedure, no ?

Jean

emil emil Oct 16, 2010 1:41 PM (in response to on5lb)Sorry, I gave step 2 wrong
Instead of hitting Ctrl + t , right click in the selection (in this case, anywhere in the image) and choose Transform Selection. You can also choose that from the Select menu

Semaphoric Oct 16, 2010 6:05 PM (in response to on5lb)Much simpler to use "Fixed Size" with the Rectangular Marquee tool.

It doesn't give you the position and finding that will make it much more complicated than my suggestion ;-)

9. Re: How to delede (cut) a part inside an image
emil emil Oct 17, 2010 6:54 AM (in response to on5lb)Here's my instructions again with a user like you in mind :-)
From the Select menu choose All
From the Select menu choose Transform Selection
In the Transform Tool's options bar located at the top of your screen and under the main menu, if the fields next to W and H are not pixels, right click in each field and choose pixels, then type the desired pixel number in each field which is your dimensions minus 32
When done press Enter one or more times until the transformation is applied indicated by disappearing of the transform box and handles around the selection and also dissapearing of the Transform tool's options.
Finally press Delete to get rid of the image in the selection. Using Cut will also remove the image but it keeps it in memory so you can paste it or use somewhere else.
Hopefully our comunications are good enough this time. LOL

on5lb Oct 17, 2010 7:58 AM (in response to emil emil)Hi,
Thanks for your time.
I succeeded to delete the inner part, but...it's still there !
I mean the selected rectangle is "disappeart", but the background is white, not "empty" and it's still about 7 MB !
Did i tell you i need a "frame" a border like for paintings ?
Or should i use Illustrator instead ?
Regards,
Jean

11. Re: How to delede (cut) a part inside an image
emil emil Oct 17, 2010 8:20 AM (in response to on5lb)Make sure you do this on a layer, not Background, and make sure you have an image under that layer so it can show through.
If you don't know what is a layer and Background check my explanation that I just made in this thread:
