    Cannot Print LR 3.2

    grandpahenry Community Member

I am trying to print a single 6x4 print on my brand new 3880.  All I get on the photo paper is a partial.  Epson print preview shows the partial as well.  I have verified that the printer is working fine by exporting a JPG, opening with Windows Fax Print Viewer.  My JPG print was correct on the Epson print preview and printed correctly.

      Does anyone have any ideas?

Which template and layout style did you select to print?

What does LR show in the preview?

            Thank you for your reply.

I had the guides turned off.  When I turned them back on I could move the guides so that the image fills the paper area shown in the print window.  I can print the entire 6 x 4 image and the image fills the photo paper.

However, I have found something puzzling.

When I turn on the "print preview" in the 3880 control panel the preview image shows up as having a lot of luminance and being tinged in red.  However printed image is find and very closely approximates the image on the computer screen.  In addition I get the same printed result printing from the MS Print and FAX viewer as I do printing from LR.  I have tried these three variants and they all look the same:

LR - Epson profile glossy - perceptual

MS Fax Print - ICM - Epson profile glossy

MS Fax Print - Standard Auto

At least for this photo using the Epson profiles does not seem to make a discernable difference.

            Any ideas,

            Henry

I'm not really sure what you're asking now. You're issue regarding the size of the print seems to be solved.

If you're saying that your screen does not match with what you get from your printer in terms of brightness, color .., that's a different story and there are a lot of threads in this forum discussing it.

First, I assume you're not profiling your screen, do you?

Search the forum for calibrating / profiling the screen and you will find a lot of information.

Actually, I have calibrated my monitors and I am aware of the brightness issue with LCD monitors versus prints being too dark.  I have compensated for that and have solved that issue in my own workflow.

I am commenting on two things:

                1. There has been a lot of talk about ICC profiles.  I use the Epson paper profiles, Epson ink, and Epson paper but I seem to get the same result whether I manage printing color with LR or the 3880 printer.  The prints match what is displayed in LR very closely.  I am satisfied with that.

                2. The "print preview" of the image about to be printed does not even come close to what is in the LR display making it just about useless for anything other than verifying that you have lined up your image on the paper.  Although the print preview colors are way off, the printed image is fine whether or not I use color controls on the printer or LR.

The Epson print preview isn't color managed. You can use it to judge layout, but not color.

I am guessing somehow the margins or sheet size is not set up correctly in the Page Setup section.

I did solve the layout problem.  Thanks for the info regarding the Epson.  I have just purchased LR 3.2, CS5, and an Epson 3880 and am going through a learning process.  I have a Canon 5D II and some of the Canon L series lenses and I am very interested in creating good photos and prints of them.

Thank you for being patient with me.
