Gradients in Illustraotor CS5 (comparing to InDesign)

      Hello,

I'm a heavy user of InDesign, hardly use Illustrator.

Now I'm trying to learn it, and there is something that is unclear to me.

When I create a gradient in ID, that is made from existing swatches, if I change to swatches color the gradient swatch will change it's color to.

I could not understand or find how to do it in IL.

I also couldn't figure out how to changed a saved gradient swatch that will effect all objects that got this gradient like I do in ID.

      thank you,

      Shlomit.

If it's spot colours you are using, create a new swatch in the swatch pallet and the select the swatch hold command and select the old swatch you are replacing, now hit the drop down menu on the swatch pallet and select merge swatches. This will replace all the old colour with the new colour on your document and remove the old swatch from your pallet.

Well actually you create a new swatch and option (alt) drag it onto the older swatch and that will change all the gradients made of that gradient swatch no need to have spot colors or global colors when it comes to gradient swatches.

to change one color of the swatch you double click the color proxy in the gradient panel to bring up the color  and swatch panel and select either a color or a swatch. First you select the color swatch change the color make a new swatch and then copy over the old swatch.

As far as just clicking on the swatch and making the color change by editing the gradient swatch that doesn't work and might not actually be desired especially if you are using the swatch to match a color in another gradient swatch.

then the other proxy or if you wish you can call it the color marker
