Mylenium Nov 7, 2010 11:22 PM (in response to rowby)The brand doesn't really matter much, as long as the timing and ECC are the same or at least supported by your mobo. Just make sure to reset those values once you upgraded and have the mobo auto-configure itself accordingly.

Jon-M-Spear Nov 7, 2010 11:57 PM (in response to Mylenium)You say that, Mylenium, but when upgrading my last Dell workstation, it was VERY choosy about which memory it liked. Although the spec matched exactly, it rejected virtually all makes except Dell (surprise surprise) and Kingston. It wasn't a matter of faulty modules.

Mylenium Nov 8, 2010 12:46 AM (in response to Jon-M-Spear)Fair enough. I would rather attribute that to some exotic branding in the BIOS or possibly Dell using a custom built mobo sub-series that only supports this and that, though. I've never had any of those problems, but of course, given that my life might depend on a working production machine, I wouldn't be miserly about spending 20 Euros on a tested brand product over a no name product.
