John Joslin Feb 19, 2010 12:17 AM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)Why don't you select the outline of the adapter, smooth the selection, and convert to a path?

D Fosse-QDEaQ1 Feb 19, 2010 12:46 AM (in response to John Joslin)Agreed. That's so clean already it should be a breeze to vectorize.

Shan-Dysigns Feb 19, 2010 10:27 AM (in response to D Fosse-QDEaQ1)I went ahead and tried what was suggested. The result came out "ok", but I'm so anal about perfect pixels when it comes to an object, I was hoping there was an actual vector outline out there, but I will tweak the shape a little more and move on with what I end up with.

Marian Driscoll Feb 19, 2010 10:34 AM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)Illustrator has more advanced path tools.
If you don't have Illustrator, use 'Inkscape' for free.

5. Re: Need Help In Finding A Vector Image Of A 45 RPM Record Adapter
Shan-Dysigns Feb 19, 2010 11:07 AM (in response to Marian Driscoll)I do have illustrator, I just use PS more, so I'm not up to date with Illustrator lingo. When I said "perfect pixels", I meant (PS in addition to) perfect curves (as in Illustrator). When I traced the image in Illustrator, the results (even after multiple parameters and tries) either ended up with jagged corners or an over-curved corner. This is why I hoped someone might have the actual outline of it as I don't have the most time in trial and error right now.
I will probably sharpen up the edges/outlines in PS and then use Illustrator to trace again.

Marian Driscoll Feb 19, 2010 11:22 AM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)You probably are not impressed with the way that an arm looks compared with the other arms. You only need to trace 1/3 of the design. Then copy/rotate 120 degrees. Then all arms will look alike.

Shan-Dysigns Feb 19, 2010 11:38 AM (in response to Marian Driscoll)Yes. It's like Sesame Street (one of these things is not like the other). I've seen a few vector images on stock image websites that contain this "adapter" (along with a few other un-needed elements), but some of these image websites think their files are gold (the way they price them).

Shan-Dysigns Dec 2, 2010 9:24 AM (in response to MaDoGK)Thanks for the effort. I went ahead and took the time to redraw it (I was originally looking for a quicker fix), but I took care of it. The adapter you showed has a slightly different profile than the one I had to reproduce.
Thanks again

cgibbler Dec 2, 2010 4:22 PM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)I've been having similar problems because I want to get something a little bit better out of PS than what its giving me. Is there any way to customize the smoothness once the image has already been selected? For example some places I don't want to smooth. I think if anything I will have to make two different selections but I'm curious if I can do it in just one?

Shan-Dysigns Dec 2, 2010 6:03 PM (in response to cgibbler)What problem do you think we have in common? My post wasn't about a technical problem, I was looking to see if someone already had what I needed (so I didn't have to spend time [of which I really didn't have] in order to have a better graphic. If PS isn't giving you what you want, it's not because of any lack on Photoshop's part. Photoshop can only do what you put into it and/or ask it. It can't compensate for what you don't know or can't do.
I wouldn't depend on selections for anything non-linear. If you want the best fitting outlines, use the pen tool.
