I am looking for a box where a user can enter text or select from the dropdown list.
In other words, a combining of input type=“text” and select options.
Is there a way to do this in ColdFusion, Java, or html?

What you are after is an editable drop down list, needs to be done using javascript.

You CAN do this in CFForms. CFSELECT has the exact option you are looking for but the format of the form has to be Flash.

It's actually called a combobox and is generally used in desktop apps, not on the web. However, activSoftware has a combobox tag for CF that you can try.
