RoboHelp freeze at Project Opening

Dear RoboHelp user community,

I recently moved from RoboHelp7 to RoboHelp8.0.2 and I am facing very slow performances at Project Opening (more than an hour)

The Project is quite big, and may have been corrupted. I was wondering if there is an utility, or operations to perform that would allow me to fix the project and be able to work again!

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Valerian

Welcome to the community.

Try closing the project, deleting the CPD file and then reopening the project. Do not delete the XPJ file as well.

Let us know if that improves things.

If not, let us have some information about project size.

Peter,

Thank you! This solved my problem.

Just for my understanding, the cpd file is some sort of index file for the project?

Kind regards,

Valerian

It is a Microsoft Access database file with a proprietary extension. The information it contains can be rebuilt from various project files and its purpose is to speed up operations while you work. Like any Access database it can get bloated or corrupted and the solution is to delete it and let RoboHelp rebuild it on opening.

There is an option in RoboHelp 8 to always delete this file when RoboHelp opens a project - Clear Project Cache.

Personally I leave it alone and just delete it if and when it gets bloated.

Hi Peter,

I was a bit too fast in saying that it solved my problem...

Now the Project takes about 20 minutes to open (which is still a bit better!)

Project information:

The Project size is: 216 MB, 500+ topics

Unused files: about 250 captures

No broken links

Please let me know if you have any other useful trick to speed up the Project opening!

Best regards,

Valerian

Hi there

Where exactly is the project stored? Many folks have reported dreadfully slow performance when the project is stored on a network drive and you try to open and edit from there.

If that's the case for you, you should seriously consider moving the project to your local C drive in order to work on it.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks for your quick reply Rick!

My project is stored on my C drive, and my antivirus de-activated...

Actually, just the project opening is slow:

The progress bar shows the project being imported (topics, images...)

Then, RoboHelp shows only a white Starter screen (no project manager....), and RoboHelp is not responsive for 20 minutes before working fine!

I hope these details will help!

Thanks again

Hi there

Was there any specific area you cleaned out? Or did you just open it up and delete everything inside?

(That's not recommended, by the way)

Cheers... Rick
