1. Re: Premiere CS4 Title: How to Create a Knockout?
Ann Bens Aug 26, 2010 1:09 PM (in response to Tim Dougherty)This is interesting. I managed to isolate the 'box'.
I was able to duplicate or reshape the 'box' in whatever i wanted.
But could not make a new one with the available tools.
It's some kind of Garbage Matte with a solid black background.
Usually you make your text or shape in the titler and color it pure white.
Set it on the timeline superimposed on the video and use it as a track matte.

Tim Dougherty Aug 26, 2010 6:02 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Yeah, a track matte would surely work. It does appear that the functionality is right there in the titler, it's just hiding somewhere.

able123 Aug 26, 2010 7:49 PM (in response to Tim Dougherty)using photoshop, pure white letters on pure black background....255,255,255 and
0,0,0 values for the colors... shades of GREY create "transluscent" rather than transparent letters.
put the psd on top of your video layer. Put track matte on video....choose video above ( in this case video 2 ) as the matte
I have composite using luma selected
You can animate the matte using motion/scale/position etc....

Take Shania Twain's face, put it on Shania Twain's body, then add Shania Twain's voice.
Instant knockout!

Zahoor Sakharkar Dec 20, 2010 12:27 PM (in response to Tim Dougherty)To create a knockout text or box in premiere titler without going to photoshop
Open titler and create a text (pure white) on black background. Overlay this above any video tracks you want to key through. Select the title on the timeline and in opacity for the title choose multiply.
On a personal note this is my first response in adobe forum and would like to thank Harm Millard and Bill Hunt for providing me with many answers over the years.

Bill Hunt Dec 20, 2010 12:33 PM (in response to Zahoor Sakharkar)Welcome to the forum, and thank you for the kind words.
I did a little tutorial for knockout Text for PrE, which does not have Blending Modes, like later versions of PrPro does. I cannot recall exactly what the steps were, but will try to find that. Might have been with PS though, as it's my main go-to program, so I would not be surprised if it's not closer to Rod's method. Just cannot remember.
Good luck,
Hunt
