    OT-AOL & PDFs

    peterpica Community Member

Are there problems with AOL's mail service when sending PDFs as attachments to AOL addresses? I've had 3 people this week (all on AOL) complaining that they're not getting my PDF attachments. I've had to use 'yousendit.com' to send them the PDFs. No problems with verizon, comcast, or other commercial email addresses.

AOL has had a long history of messing up PDF's so I would say that the chances are good that it still has an issue or two. Generally, the issue is with corruption of the PDF. AOL uses a type of encoding to make the transfer faster and when the PDF is decoded, it is corrupt. Wasn't sure they still had this issue since I haven't heard much in here about it lately.

As an experiment, try Zipping the PDF first and THEN email it. Do they receive the attachment? Can they unZip the file and open it?

thanks much; as I'd expected. My customers weren't too thrilled about my advising them to dump AOL.

I'm surprised that AOL still has 3 customers.

Do you have any web space where you could post the PDF's and send them a link. That seems to be the preferred way to transfer PDF's.

If they are intended for the customer only (you are worried about someone else taking them) you can put them in a secure area and send a password (although if they are confidential, remember that email can be intercepted and the PDF's can be compromised too).

Yes, I use yousendit.com whenever I have problem children; I also use inbox.com for larger files.
