Help me please somebody!!

I am using Adobe CS4. I created both my novels in Indesign and loaded them into a book. I can create PDF's with no problem but cannot view them without closing Indesign and opening adobe. That shouldn't be. Secondly, I can't export to digital editions!!! (for ebook) I keep getting an error, "files have not been converted." What should I do??
