1. Re: Why does AVCHD footage still show up as "File Format Not Supported" when imported into CS5?
Colin Brougham Jan 10, 2011 6:15 AM (in response to Webshark2000)How are you importing the footage? Have you maintained the AVCHD folder structure? What files, specifically, is the error message telling you that were not imported/are not supported?

Yes, I always import the AVCHD folder, itself. But, just now I tried only importing the actual MTS files inside the STREAM folder and I didn't get any errors.

It's all of the CPI and XMP files, as well as THUMB.TDT, THUMB.TID, INDEX.BDM, MOVIEOBJ.BDM and 00000.MPL. So, it looks like it's not the actual footage. Am I ok to just import the MTS files themselves? I was always under the impression that I should select the AVCHD folder and click "Import Folder" when importing AVCHD footage.
Thanks.

3. Re: Why does AVCHD footage still show up as "File Format Not Supported" when imported into CS5?
Colin Brougham Jan 10, 2011 7:31 AM (in response to Webshark2000)Just the MTS files are probably fine; Premiere is smart enough to grab what it needs from the other files, so long as the folder structure is intact. An even easier way would be to use the Media Browser; simply navigate into the folder containing the AVCHD folder structure, and the MB will flip into AVCHD viewer mode. It will give you a listing of all the files contained in the STREAM folder, without having to actually dive into the STREAM folder. Select some or all of the files, and import them into your project.
The "File Format Not Supported" message is due to all of the files you listed; some of them are used by Premiere behind the scenes, but they're not media files themselves, so they can't and don't need to be imported.

John T Smith Jan 10, 2011 8:39 AM (in response to Webshark2000)For my Canon Vixia HFS100 I copy ONLY the video MTS files to my hard drive, not the folder structure, and all works well
Your camera may require the folder structure on your hard drive for your video files to work

It won't; Premiere is fine with just the MTS files from any (or most any) AVCHD camera. However, if you want timecode (provided your camera records timecode), you need to preserve the folder structure as that metadata is written in the CPI files (and I think a couple other files).
