Editor Naama Jan 18, 2011 3:45 PM (in response to fuaho)Hi Fuaho,
My guess is that you don't have enough memory or system power to use the dynamic link.
You can export the clip you want to use to After effects instead, and after the process, export it back to premiere.

Thanks for the response.
System is:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83-GHz, 8-GB DDR3 RAM @1333 MHz, 1-TB SATA RAID 10 running Win7 Professional, 64-bit.
I'd hope that would be enough to use Dynamic Link.
It's getting stuck on something but I can't determine what...
Whole point of CS4 is so I don't have to export/import. Changes should take place in real time.

Editor Naama Jan 19, 2011 1:00 AM (in response to fuaho)Yea, I think you're right. Your system should work great.
I don't know if it helps but this is what comes to mind:
Could there be a heavy process/program that gets the system stuck? Any thing running in the background?
Are you dealing with really heavy graphics with many layers? Or a really heavy video format?
Did you download and install all of the updates from the Adobe web site?
Did you search "Dynamic link problem" on Google or these forums?
Does your Windows "see" all of your 8 GB RAM?

Nothing else running of note.

No layers or graphics. Only a simple effect for testing. UYVY video.
Did you download and install all of the updates from the Adobe web site?
Yes.
Did you search "Dynamic link problem" on Google or these forums?
Read everything I could find in Forums before posting. Hadn't thought of Googling. I'll try it.
Does your Windows "see" all of your 8 GB RAM?
Yes.
I've been trying to avoid a complete uninstall and re-install, but it looks like I may have to. I'll need to find the link to the "Clean Uninstaller."
Thanks again for your input. Wish one of those ideas was the answer

fuaho Jan 19, 2011 10:29 AM (in response to fuaho)Some additional information about the problem:
Open Premiere with "Run as Administrator"
Right click on a clip (doesn't matter which) and select "replace with AE composition"
AE opens and asks for a filename. Task Manager (TM) indicates "Running" for AE and "Not Responding" for Pr.
Give filename and AE opens with the selected clip from Pr. TM indicates both as "Running."
Can return to Pr and then go back to AE. Can "File\Save" in both.
However, when I add an effect in AE - e.g., Brightness/Contrast, the effect works fine in AE but if I return to Pr, just get the spinning wheel and TM says "Not Responding" for Pr. AE is still "Running."
If I click in the timeline, or any other "box" in Pr, it goes "whitish" or semi-transparent or fades. Hard to describe exactly.
Every box I click in does the same. Spinning wheel never stops and Pr never recovers.
State of the system at that point is as follows:
Once there was another program that appeared in TM called "droverloard.exe" that appeared and was also "Not Responding."
I'm about out of ideas here, so hopefully this will jog someone's memory about what's going on...
TIA,

Have you tried importing the premiere sequence into After effects instead?
