1. Re: Removing custom camera profiles
Seán McCormack Jan 16, 2011 3:58 PM (in response to rlafoto1)On Mac they're in the same folder as the Lightroom presets parent folder.
So look in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Camera Profiles
AppData is Hidden by Default
If not, go back and look through the Adobe folder.

areohbee Jan 16, 2011 5:07 PM (in response to rlafoto1)I'm thinking its high time Adobe added 'Delete Profile' to the Profile drop-down, along with 'Edit' & 'New'.

By now you should know where the Feature Request Forum is. Feature Requests in the main forum don't get seen.
Sean.

rlafoto1 Jan 16, 2011 5:39 PM (in response to Seán McCormack)Thanks Sean!
I still cannot find the profile. If I try the sequence below it ends with a movie?
computer>Local Disk (C:)>Users>hp>AppData>Roaming>Adobe>CameraRaw>CameraProfiles>Index (Video CD Movie)
If I try the sequence below it ends up with the 2 files that do not contain the custum profile...
Computer>Local Disk (C:)>ProgramData>Adobe>CameraRaw>CameraProfiles>
2 files:
Adobe Standard
Camera

6. Re: Removing custom camera profiles
Seán McCormack Jan 16, 2011 5:46 PM (in response to rlafoto1)Just looked in the DNG Profile editor pages and it says that C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles is the right location for them.
I'll see if X-Rite has any info.

rlafoto1 Jan 16, 2011 6:17 PM (in response to Seán McCormack)Sean,
My apologies! I used the profile manager and deleted the custom profile. Then I checked Lightroom and there it was - so I figured it only deleted it from the manager not from my computer. I looked for the custom profile on my C: drive and could not find it. This started about 6 hrs ago...
As you probably guess - I did not restart Lightroom - did not know I had to... I restarted LR a few minutes ago and the custom profile was gone.
The x-rite manager works great - no more tracking done the file...
I am a science guy - not a tech guy...
Sorry for the trouble but I do thank you for the effort.

Seán McCormack Jan 16, 2011 6:19 PM (in response to rlafoto1)Even though I know where the profiles are on my Mac, it was still useful for me to find this. I've a Passport myself.

10. Re: Removing custom camera profiles
JW Stephenson Jan 17, 2011 12:04 PM (in response to rlafoto1)Randy,
Be careful deleting profiles, particularly from the OS. I think the x-rite manager actually hides profiles instead of deleting them which is probably just fine.
Regarding actual deletion, I am not certain so please test this - if the profiles are not being used by any images, deleting should not be a problem. If some images are using them however and the profiles are deleted, the next time that image renders it won't be able to find the profile and will have to render using an Adobe default color profile. To compound this problem, there is no easy way to filter by color profile (a couple of plug-ins exist I think) so it becomes difficult to know if it a particular profile is being used.
One way around this, again I believe this is correct but please test for yourself, is that if you use the DNG format for your RAW images, when you update the DNG Preview (instead of Ctrl-S) you embed the color profile into the image and therefor you can delete them. This can be handy when you have one-time uses for the special color profiles.

areohbee Jan 17, 2011 1:45 PM (in response to JW Stephenson)DevMeta allows you to library-filter/smart-collect on camera profile so you can see which photos use which profiles...
