1. Re: Can you get chapters out of PP into Encore if it is a DD5.1 Blu-Ray?
Bill Hunt Jan 16, 2011 3:38 PM (in response to BJBBJB1)For the Video-only, you can add Encore Chapter Markers (a special sub-set of Markers, so be sure to choose the right one), and then Import as a Timeline. Import the AC3 as an Asset. Once in En, just drag the AC3 to the appropriate Timeline, where it will snap into place. Done.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - because of the need for the SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in, ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link) will not work, as you note. CS5 has not changed that. I do not anticipate seeing a change, until Adobe includes the SurCode plug-in as part of the package, at a premium of ~ US$250 for the DD licensing fee.

Are you saying to use dynamic link? The OP thinks this will not work, but I think it is the only way in CS5.I have not tried to add different audio to a DL Encore timeline.
BJBB, have you tried this?

Bill Hunt Jan 16, 2011 4:54 PM (in response to Stan Jones)No. I was suggesting adding the Encore Chapter Markers, and doing the same Export, then Import into En as a Timeline.
Sorry if I was not clear on that.

4. Re: Can you get chapters out of PP into Encore if it is a DD5.1 Blu-Ray?
Stan Jones Jan 16, 2011 5:05 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)The problem he is pointing out is that in CS5, Encore can only use Encore chapter markers from Premiere, and they can only be sent via dynamic link.
The Encore help that addresses this is:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/encore/cs/using/WSbaf9cd7d26a2eabfe807401038582db29-7fa8a.html
Premiere help:
This seems a short sighted approach; feature request options: add back the ability to export one or more chapter marker types and/or beef up Encore's ability to interpret various markers coming in and/or add the abilty to Encore to import markers from a text file and the ability in Premiere to export such files.
Haven't submitted any of those.

Bill Hunt Jan 16, 2011 5:15 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Hm-m,
Then that is a change from how things were done. Sorry about that. When I needed Chapter Markers, I just added them to the Timeline, and then did the Export (usually DV-AVI Video only). Was not aware that method had been discontinued. My bad...
Thanks for that correction.

6. Re: Can you get chapters out of PP into Encore if it is a DD5.1 Blu-Ray?
BJBBJB1 Jan 16, 2011 9:17 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks all. I am still using CS4 but CS5 is waiting for install.
The reason I posted is that even with CS4, when I created chapters in PPro, neither method I described carried them over into Encore.
Perhaps the only way to carry them over, even in CS4 is with dynamic link. I guess I could "dynamic link" the video-only into Encore and then just add the audio manually?
I guess another advantage of using dynamic link (just for the video of course) is if I am making ONLY video edits in Pr Pro and not touching the audio or project length, I can make minor edits without re-rendering again? Am I thinking correctly? For example just ran into a little title glitch that based on how I currently imported the video, I now need to fix in Pr Pro, re-render, bring into Encore again, re-setup my menu links, etc.
Like I said, they really should have made this workflow much smoother by the time CS5 came out IMHO.
Thanks again,

I missed the CS4, but it is true that this change was made as of CS4, so same problem.Perhaps the only way to carry them over, even in CS4 is with dynamic link. I guess I could "dynamic link" the video-only into Encore and then just add the audio manually?
Absolutely try this and report. I don't have time to test at the moment. Not using 5.1 audio, so hadn't realized what a big problem this could be.

If you are asking whether it has to be transcoded again, the transcoding occurs once in Encore, and IF you have transcoded before making an edit, you must "revert to original" and transcode again. Just "don't do that" - make all edits before transcoding. It is a very nice feature.

Perhaps they didn't get enough feature requests to put "DVD markers via sequence markers in avi files" etc back in.

8. Re: Can you get chapters out of PP into Encore if it is a DD5.1 Blu-Ray?
BJBBJB1 Jan 17, 2011 12:25 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Stan,
Thanks. I will try the dynamic link for my next 5.1 project.
As far as minor edits, I am transcoding once I "think" I am done in P Pro and then importing into Encore a separate audio and video stream. But, if I miss something an don't notice it unitl I am in Encore or the disc is made, I have to as you say go back to the original and then fix it in Pr Pro, re-transcode and re-import into Encore.
My understanding is with Dynamic Link I would have the added benefit of not having to do that because then the transcoding WILL take place in Encore.
As far as feature request, I would be less worried about chapter marks carrying over than having an integrated dynamic link process for 5.1 projects.

You transcode in Encore using either the Encore transcoding engine or AME. But with DL, you can easily make changes in PR, so you still want to wait till the end to transcode. If you transcode and then make more changes, you have to re-transcode.
As far as feature request, I would be less worried about chapter marks carrying over than having an integrated dynamic link process for 5.1 projects.
I hear that.
