Index keywords won't access bookmarks

I've looked up everything about this topic, but I still can't get this to work.
I have created index keywords.
From the topics view, I have dragged a bookmark to the "Topics for" window.
When I compile and click on an index keyword, I get either a Page not found error or a blank page.
It's not a binary index. Keywords are in the HHK

Any ideas?

That works for me. I wonder if perhaps the problem is that you have the chm file on a network drive?

Hi Margaret

You aren't by chance running a beta version of IE7 are you? If so, I know it breaks this functionality. (I'm running it on my home desktop)

Cheers... Rick

Try this, just a hunch based on what I found in Dreamweaver.

I never select the actual text for a bookmark, I just place it in front of the target heading. I found that does not work in DW. Click the link to the target and nothing happens. However if you place the bookmark at the end of the target heading, then it does work!

I wonder if that will change how IE7 works?

You know, I had this same brainwave as I was scootering in this morning. Wonderful how fresh air clears your head. It IS IE7. I have it on my laptop. That's why I never noticed the problem on my desktop computer. It's still running IE6.

Any solutions?

I gave putting the bookmark at the end a shot, just in case. But... it didn't work. Besides the thought of moving a couple thousand bookmarks is a bit daunting.

I just tested the method I suggested on an IE7 machine and it works fine. So too does putting the bookmark at the beginning of the text or selecting the text when creating the bookmark.

It's all working correctly from the index.

I am happy to send you and/or Rick the test project that I set up.

Uninstalling IE7 was the fix. We'll have to hope a solution is found before it comes out of beta, or I'll be hosed.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, please, send me the test project. When I tried it, it did not work. So there must be something different that I am doing.

Well. Since I uninstalled IE7 to test the theory that this was the problem, then I re-installed in order to check Peter's test file, I found that everything now works. Apparently I needed to get the latest version.

Problem solved.
Thanks again.

Hi Peter and Margaret

It is my understanding that since IE7 beta initially broke this functionality, they released a subsequent version of the IE7 beta where the functionality was restored. So this probably explains why it now works. If you downloaded fresh installs of the beta, you probably downloaded the patched up version.

Peter, I never EVER create bookmarks by selecting the text. I also implore to my students to never create bookmarks this way. I much prefer them to be independent, seeing the little flag indicators.

Cheers all... Rick (who is exhausted after conducting two days worth of Captivate classes here in Minneapolis, MN)

Yes I wouldn't normally select the text, I was just setting up the bookmarks using different methods to test if they made a difference. I know it does in Dreamweaver for reasons I do not understand.

It was Beta 2 that I downloaded.
