1. Re: How to burn full hd clips onto dvd-r with Blu-ray burner to playback on a set top Blu-ray player?
tfi productions 44 Jan 21, 2011 12:39 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)hello,
at this time the answer is yes
they are called BD5 and BD9 discs
the BD5 is a single layer DVD-r disc that holds BDMV
the BD9 is a dual layer DVD-r disc that holds BDMV
now i'm trying to see if Encore CS5 burns BD5/BD9 discs?
thanks,

tfi productions 44 Jan 21, 2011 12:44 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)here are specs:
BD9 and BD5 are lower capacity variants of the Blu-ray Disc that contain Blu-ray Disc compatible video and audio streams
contained on a conventional DVD (650 nm wavelength / red laser) optical disc. Such discs offer the use of the same
advanced compression technologies available to Blu-ray Discs (including H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1 and MPEG-2)
while using lower cost legacy media. BD9 uses a standard 8152MB DVD9 dual-layer disc while BD5 uses a
standard 4482MB DVD5 single-layer disc.
BD9/BD5 discs can be authored using home computers for private showing using standard DVD±R recorders.AACS digital rights management is optional. The BD9/BD5 format was originally proposed by Warner Home Video,
as a cost-effective alternative to regular Blu-ray Discs. It was adopted as part of the
BD-ROM basic format, file system, and AV specifications. BD9/BD5 is similar to 3× DVD for HD DVDs.
not bad...

Pyramid Pyro Jan 21, 2011 2:47 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)I did this with some very short clips to test and not kill a BD-R disc (same boat you're in).
If I remember corretly, I created a Blu-ray image from Encore then used IMGburn to burn them to a DVD (single layer). It played back fine on my Sony set-top Blu-ray player.

tfi productions 44 Jan 21, 2011 3:26 PM (in response to Pyramid Pyro)hello Pyro,
am i correct in stating that you burned
the image via imgburn with a regular 'red laser'
dvd burner (not a Blu-ray burner)?
this would be great, because then i don't need
to buy a blu-ray burner just yet
thanks for the info,

Pyramid Pyro Jan 21, 2011 3:41 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)Ouch! I really don't remember, but I think I did burn it with a regular ol' DVD writer. I have both; a BD-R drive and DVD-R drive. Once the image is made I don't think it matters.
I'd say go for it.
If I'm wrong, I'll blame it on "Friday afternoon near quitting time."
