    Does Bridge support AVCHD

    Another Photographer Community Member

I would hope that the answer is a simple yes, but I'm guessing it's either a simple no or a complicated no.  I like Bridge in general, so I was wondering whether there are any decent work-arounds for its limited (if not nonexistant) support for AVCHD.

CS4, apparently does, but CS5 version does not.According to a PP/AE tech who pposted on this forum:

"Rick, as I think I've said several times before: Your issue is not  something that Technical Support can help you with. It's a deficiency in  the software. The codecs aren't there. They were installed by After  Effects and Premiere Pro in CS4; they aren't in CS5. Bridge therefore  doesn't have access to a component that it needs. This is a bug. The  Bridge team can't fix this bug without licensing and installing codecs,  which they have not done for CS5."

In other posts, Bridge support has advised users to install 3rd party CODECS, but the PremPro/AE tech quoted above advises NOT to do this as it will negatively affect the functioning of these programs. Some folks seem to be bothered by Bridge CS5's inability to play common HD file types, but frankly it seems unreasonable to expect Adobe to have tested this prior to shipping or to pay additional CODEC licensing fees for a suite that retails for only $1,600.

My computer has Win 7 so my workaround is simply to use Windows Explorer.

And just when I am moving to a Panasonic AF100 that shoots in

            AVCHD..........!!!

Anyone have any thoughts on making *.mts or *.m2ts files display in Bridge CS5?

Guy, I reinstalled Windows 7 and installed CS4, and CS4 does not support AVCHD, unless by support you mean showing a thumbnail.  That's all it does: it shows a thumbnail of mts and m2ts files.  Doubel clicking on the mts files launches Windows Media Player.  Double clicking on the m2ts files gives the same exasperating error message as CS5: "Windows cannot find '%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

Sorry to hear that CS4 didn't work for you. Others here have reported it working for them. I skipped CS4 so I can't test it.

I've uploaded M2T (HDV) and MTS (720p AVCHD) files for Bridge QE to test. This is per their request in response to my post on the feature request forum. So we'll see what happens.

FYI, I've also looked at ACDSee, but they still have no support for AVCHD (I've sent this feature request to them, too).

I wonder if it depends on the camera that generated the files.  Mine are from a Panasonic GF1.

Panasonic? Well that's your problem - why would anyone shoot with a Panasonic?

I mean, besides me, of course ;-)

I shoot with the GH-1 and have found its 1080 video to be problematic due to a really poor CODEC implementation. But its 720p - which is the same 720p as your camera, I believe - is great. Works with Vegas, PremierePro, Windows Media, QuickTime, a consumer grade editing program, and an online site that produces montages from video and stills. In other words, everything I've tried it on works fine.

This is the last project I shot with the GH1 (720p): http://www.youtube.com/user/seesnake#p/u/0/qP9xsCJj8jQ
