Modifying Books With Link

Hello All,

When the user clicks a book in the TOC, an Introduction Topic displays, providing a brief outline of the chapter.

Is it possible to modify the link, so the Introduction Topic does not display when the user closes the book, but does display when the user opens a book?

Thanks
CRO

Hi CRO. There is certainly no way to do this in RH. The question I have though is when a user closes a book, how would you know what topic the user wants displayed?

Hello All,

To expand on my original post.

The TOC has two books. User clicks on Book One, which opens and also displays the Introduction Topic for Book One in the Topic Pane. User sees the topics within Book One.

User clicks on Book Two which opens and also displays the Introduction Topic for Book Two in the Topic Pane. User sees the topics within Book Two.

To close either Book, user clicks the book and the book closes and the corresponding Introduction Topic displays.

What I would like to avoid is having the Introduction Topic display when the user clicks the book to close it. Seems pointless to have an Introduction display, when the user is closing the book.

Thanks,
CRO

CRO. This can not be done for the reason I mentioned earlier. If the user closes a book because they no longer require the information displayed, how do you know which topic to display? The behaviour you are seeing is standard help file behaviour. It may seem pointless but this is the way it works.

Do you mean you only want the Intro topic to appear in the TOC, but not in the topic pane?

Right click the book and select Properties. Just below the Book Title field is the Book with Link check box. Click the box to disable it. Generate your output.

Good luck,
Leon
