It's most likely that you're not retaining vectors as much as you think you are, and you're rasterizing much of your content. The best way to create a true .swf would be with Flash Professional if that's an option for you.

Mylenium Jan 27, 2011 8:31 AM (in response to cjacs987654)SWFs exported from AE produce embeded JPG sequences for rasterized data, hence the size. you can choose to ignore unsupported features or render to an FLV file to get more acceptable file sizes.
