1. Re: alignment and cropping of photos in preparation for animation composition
MTSTUNER Jan 9, 2011 6:32 PM (in response to cyberbaffled)If the photos have the same background, you could load the photos as layers
File>Scripts>Load Files into Stack, then select the the photos and use
Edit>Auto-Align Layers.
Then you could use layer masks to blend the foreground and background objects.

Curt Y Jan 10, 2011 11:06 AM (in response to cyberbaffled)At least version CS3 had them. Load files into stacks is in File/scripts and auto align is in Edit.

cyberbaffled Jan 10, 2011 1:13 PM (in response to Curt Y)I'll leave this thread unanswered for a bit longer to see if anyone can think of a way to accomplish the task using PS CS2. Then I'll give MSTuner credit for his solution.

Curt Y Jan 10, 2011 1:21 PM (in response to cyberbaffled)Ah, CS2. Here is a link that gives a work around for CS2 users. Check it out at http://www.scrapartist.com/blog/2010/03/06/tips-tricks-load-files-into-stack/

6. Re: alignment and cropping of photos in preparation for animation composition
MTSTUNER Jan 10, 2011 2:44 PM (in response to cyberbaffled)I should of asked which version of photoshop, sorry. Cs2 has neither the
load files into stack script or the auto align function.
In addition to Curts suggestion, you could use File>Automate>Photomerge
and in the photomerge dialog check Keep as Layers. Sometimes photomerge
does a decent job of aligning the layers. If not you may have to use the transform functions
such as distort and warp to align the layers. (you don't have give credit for an answer that
doesn't work for you)

7. Re: alignment and cropping of photos in preparation for animation composition
cyberbaffled Jan 10, 2011 6:43 PM (in response to MTSTUNER)MTStuner and Curt Y. I'll experiment a bit with your suggestions before saying more. I'm not certain, though, that I'm being completely understood. I have no problem aligning the photos. It's cropping the overlayed photo to the boundry of the background photo and then recovering it from the overlay in that cropped form that's the hang-up.

8. Re: alignment and cropping of photos in preparation for animation composition
MTSTUNER Jan 10, 2011 7:00 PM (in response to cyberbaffled)Just as a example, say you have several photos of a waterfall.
The background is the same, but in animation your want the foreground
(water in this example) to change with each frame, but use the first photo
as the background for each frame.
Is that something like what your describing?

cyberbaffled Feb 4, 2011 6:41 PM (in response to MTSTUNER)I've given you credit for a helpful answer. PS CS2 has a SCRIPTS>EXPORT LAYERS TO FILES utility. This accomplished my purpose, and I wouldn't have thought of it without your suggestion. Thanks greatly.
