i have a kobo wireless e-reader and ADE installed on my laptop.  I can not figure out how to do anything.  I can not move books to ADE, i can not install ADE on my e-reader, and the only options on my ADE laptop are read a book, delete a book, and adjust viewer to fit various sizes. The only option in the library menu that does anything is the option to authorize this computer.  Is there a user guide or something? I cant even find an option to get an id #.  It seems that the only instructions i can find are the ones these threads, but most of them dont relate to me b cuz i am not even that far along yet.

Hey I am not a tech, but the following is my best response.

1. Turn on your Kobo releated e-reader, and login to your wifi network. It should automatically prompt you to update your user software. If it restarts itself let it sit for 15-20 minutes BEFORE you turn it back on. (The letting it sit for 10-15 minutes is apparently an important step, but dont ask me why.) You have to have the current software version of 2.0 or higher on your ereader.

2. You dont install ADE on your e-reader from what I know, only on your computer then you sync the ereader by using the USB cable to your computer. You apparently have to use the USB cable they gave you with the e-reader, no other generic cable seems to work.

3. Take your e-reader mini-USB cable, plug it into the ereader, take the USB end and plug it into your computer and turn on your e-reader. (Per your comments I am presuming you already installed and authorized ADE on your computer.)

4. The computer should automatically detect the KOBO branded e-reader, and load the drivers. If it doesnt, I would suggest, deleting ADE, re-installing it, re-authorize and going back to step #3.

5. One your e-reader is detected in ADE, it should list it in the left panel of the ADE "Bookshelf" as your e-readers device name.

6. In order to add books to the librart, you must "click" on the Library "down arrow tab" on the top left hand side of the screen. Then you must "click" on the "Add Item To Library" tab and use "explorer to find what you want. I haven't found any shortcuts to do mutiple books from different authors, so I believe you have to do every book you want individually.

7. Once you add all the books to your library (either one of the "pre-set" ones or one you created, then you can drag the books from the main ADE "Library Pane" that you are in to the "name" of your e-reader. This will put the books on the "internal memory" of your e-reader.

8. For the Kobo bookstore, I have found no way as of yet to put the books on an SD card, and access them through ADE.

9. Another consideration is that you have to make sure any books you want to put on ADE, are actually compatible files, and not some special type of file like Kindle, etc.

10. So to highlight, make sure you have the current software on your e-reader. Plug in your e-reader with the supplied USB cable first, then start ADE. Drag and drop files first to the library, then from the library to the E-reader library.

I Hope this works for you.

I have the Pandigital 7" Colour reader with the Kobo reader pre-installed.  Adobe digital editions is already on the reader.  When you connect to the Kobo store  via wifi by starting the K>obo app you should see a tab thyat states "Purchases History".  Download a previously purchased book and when you go to read it via "My Library" you will get asked to enter your adobe account user id and password.  Use the same account info that you used to set up your account. You should then be able to access your your purchases. I haven't tried it yet but you should be able to transfer books via usb cable between devices buy coping your books over from C:\My Documents\My Digital Editions\ to the internal memory of your reader.

Ok, thank you. I have never tried to buy e-books from kobo shop while

using my e-reader wi-fi, so i will try it. But I have a KOBO brand e-reader

with Adobe Mobile Reader software so it may be a bit different, but

definitely worth a shot.

Thanks Again

I hooked up my Canadian 7" Pandigital eReader (Comes with Kobo as the

main reader) to my PC. In the internal memory is a folder called

"eBooks". Under this folder is another folder called "Kobo". There is

also another folder in the root of the internal memory called "Digital

Editions". In this folder is an xml file that keeps track of your DRM

accepted ebooks.

In my setup if I place books under the "eBook" folder they show up under

the "Local" setting under "Author" in the "Kobo Reader software" In my

version each tab under my library has the options "Local" or "Kobo".

When you purchase or download a free ebook using Kobo it places the

ebooks under the "Kobo" folder which resides under "eBooks". If I

transfer my own non DRM ebooks and place them under the "eBooks" folder

(they can even reside in their own folders such as "James Patterson")

they show up when I tag "Local".

When Kobo first came out I went and had a look at them at Chapters. I

brought along my own sd card with hundreds of books on it and I was able

to access the ebooks. These were not DRM'ed ebooks.

My Pandigital Colour reader also states "Contains Reader Mobile Tech by

Adobe systems".

I just had a problem where my PDN Kobo reader would no longer get

authorized by ADE. I had done a firmware update and I guess it put the

device in "First Use" status. When I went to authorize it for ADE it

stated I had already reached my max allowance which I believe is 6. I

opened up a problem ticket with Adobe service yesterday and today I

recieved a response stating that the count has been reset. I tried my

reader and was able to authorize it using the Kobo app and the built in

wifi.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what is going on. If I try to "add to library". None of my book files "match search criteria". If I move or copy a book, the title will b there but I can't open it or it shows empty or the books are not moved onto e-reader. I can't click and drag books. All of the book files that show up on desktop from internal memory of the e-reader refuse to open or are empty when I do open them.

I was under the impression that you were accessing the files directly on e-reader not on computer with e-reader connected by usb.

Where are you finding the "local" and "author" files? Are they on e-reader when you are picking a book to read? Or are they found when you open e-reader files on computer?

I thank u for the info. I got my kobo just before thanksgiving and have

never seen a prompt to update my e-reader. ADE does not see my e-reader. I

have been messing around, trying to copy book files all over the place so

that I can add them to my kobo and i finally figured a way to get a few

moved over, but anytime i try to "add to library" i get a message saying

something along the lines of "no files matching that criteria" and i get that for

every type of e-book file if i try to copy it from it's original download

location. I can send a copy of my books to calibre (caliber sees my device

and allows me to copy books on to device and copy to sd card)

Calibre is free and is the only program that sees 100% of my books and my

device. The only e-books that calibre cannot convert and send to e-reader

are DRM protected books, but they can be read on caliber desktop. I have

to open each book in it's originating library and use menu to "send or copy

to:" then send to calibre. I can not add to library, even with calibre.

Another issue i have is syncing. Kobo user manual says that you can click

and drag books from kobo desktop program to e-reader and from other places

to kobo desktop, but that doesn't work either. So i have kobo desktop,

borders desktop, and kindle desktop programs. I can not get kindle books

onto e-reader, but i can move them to caliber. But the borders and kobo

programs give me a headache. Kobo reader came with 100 free books on it, but

they only show up on kobo desktop. Borders gave me 5 ( i think) free books

that only show up through the borders desktop. Same thing if i buy any books

from their shops. If I sync to one it deletes any books from my e-reader

that were purchased at the other shop.

So i will try to install ADE again and see if that will help. I am hoping

I can use ADE to add DRM protected e-books to my reader. The ADE program

is supposed to allow that by utilizing passwords for protected content.

Thanks again. Hope that bit about calibre sending e-books to sd card (while

installed in reader)

helps you some.

Ok so maybe I'm just blonde but I cannot for the life of me make this work ... I have several e-Books that I downloaded from my local library and various other sites that I can access via ADE, Calibre, and see on my Kobo booklist ... They were even added to my Kobo via ADE.  However when I try to read them on Kobo it comes up with an error stating "The content you are trying to view is locked. Please use your Adobe ID to authorize your ereaderwith the Kobo Desktop Application or Adobe Digital Edition."

Obviously if my ereader wasn't already authorized I wouldn't have this book on my device.

Any help someone could provide would be beyond greatly appreciated.

Thanks Muchly!!!

It may appear that your Kobo has been authorised but have you tried to

re-authorize it again using either ADE desktop or your Kobo desktop app.

Do you only have one ADE account? If you have two accounts then you

have to match your authorization with the right account.

I ran into the same problem when I upgraded the firmware on my

Pandigital Kobo reader. It was authorized originally with my existing

account and would allow access to purchased books or library downloads

but when I did the FW update I had to re-authorize my reader. When I

did this it stated that I had reached the max number of authorized

devices for my ADE account and refused to accept it. So I created a

second ade account but now it will not open any ebooks obtained with the

prior account.

Note: If you would like to discuss this some more email me directly I

may have a solution for you.

Ok, I have never, as far as I know, authorized my kobo. I have my laptop authorized for ADE, but I have never had my kobo recognized by ADE, let alone authorized. So I have not yet had time to uninstall and reinstall ADE on my laptop.

I have another question for you. I was reading the Kobo wireless users

manual and it did not mention that it could read ADE DRM for ePubs. It

did focus on ADE DRM for pdf's. So are the books you are having

problems with in ePub format only?

Again reply directly to my email account.

Thank you

Bar76  Let's get together via phone.  I have a flat rate Long Distance plan for my home phone.

If you email me at my email address directly instead of through this forum we can then make arrangements to work on this issue in real time.

I do not have the Kobo wifi but I do have several other ereaders that use ADE to authorize and transfer ebooks to them.

My Pandigital 7" Colour e-reader came with Kobo installed as the primary ereader.  It is wireless but I can also transfer e-books to it via ADE PC app.

Your Kobo reader already has the ADE client on it and you should be able to purchase books dirrectly from Kobo but with the ADE on the PC you should be able to get books from other suppliers and transfer them to your Kobo.

The problem is probably procedural and I am willing to walk you through the steps.  I have downloaded the user manual for the Kobo wireless reader and it should work the same as my other readers when connected to ADE on the PC.

Look at my profile - I will make my email available.
