lisaellensegal Feb 11, 2011 9:56 AM (in response to John T Smith)Thanks John,
Still getting hung up - won't even allow me to close the program. Task manager can't even close it. I have to force a restart.
Any more suggestions? I created a temp user and that did not help.

Bill Hunt Feb 11, 2011 10:04 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)I created a temp user and that did not help.
In Windows Explorer, try Rt-clicking on the Encore EXE file, and choose Run As Administrator. Does that get the program open?
Good luck,
Hunt

if that doesnt work, are you opening encore via new project? or opening encore via an already compiled project? i think once when i was opening encore via a project there was a currupt assett or something or other and it locked up and wouldnt open, had to delete the project and start over. have you tried going to start > programs > adobe > encore yet and opening a new project?

6. Still not opening after clean re-installation
lisaellensegal Feb 16, 2011 9:35 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)I uninstalled CS4 entirely. I ran the cleaner tool several times. I reinstalled CS4 Master Collection. I am able to use all of my programs EXCEPT Encore. I have used Encore on this computer for years. What is happening? I have no other Adobe programs running. I am trying to run as administrator. I am not opening an existing project. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have installed ALL updates.
Thanks for anyone's help in advance.

lisaellensegal Feb 16, 2011 12:12 PM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Hi Jeff,
I followed these instructions, rebooted, and am still unable to launch encore. It seems to get hung up on "Intializing Transcoding". I have to force shutdown once I try to launch.
I also tried to launch as administrator with no luck.

Jeff Bellune Feb 16, 2011 12:24 PM (in response to lisaellensegal)It seems to get hung up on "Intializing Transcoding". I have to force shutdown once I try to launch.
Those were the same symptoms I had with CS4 on Win7, and the Roxio pxengine fix cleared up the problem.
Try this:
Hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys while you try to launch En. It won't launch, so after about 15 seconds, let go of the keys. Try and launch En again. The previous attempt should have trashed your preferences, so when you launch it the second time you're launching with a fresh set of all the user stuff.

11. Re: Still not opening after clean re-installation
lisaellensegal Feb 17, 2011 7:45 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)Jeff, is it possible that Adobe Encore thinks that I am running a trial version? I can edit hd video in Premiere which leads me to belive that my install is a full version. Is it possible to manually remove preferences?
I appreciate your help.

Sorry but I can not understand if this is a trial version or not. Nothing had to lead to believe: Is or Not?
In second analysis, Jeff wrote about the "famous" Roxio exe that solved many problem with Encore CS4, included the one like your.
Have you tried it (of course installed as admin)?
As third: have you installed your suite with Admin privileges?
This is very important.
Adobe likes its software installed and run as Admin.
Sincerely I hope this will helps.....

14. Re: Still not opening after clean re-installation
Giorgio1957 Feb 17, 2011 10:20 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)Yes, sure:
Installation:
-search for the setup.exe (disc 1)
-right click, a window will open and you'll click on run as admin
run:
-On the icons of the various applications (Encore for ex.) right click
-select properties
-select Compatibility
-mark "Execute as admin"
-select "Apply"
-select "OK"
That's all
I have the italian version of Win Operating System and Adobe Applications, so translation mistakes may occur.
If this will, please forgive me

lisaellensegal Jul 13, 2011 2:04 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Bill is very knowledegable and has helped me with many issues. I always log in as administrator. The only other time that I had an issue was a conflict with my usb scanner plugged in. As soon as I unplugged it, Encore opened.
Good luck,

21. Re: encore now opening in windows 7 64 bit
Bill Hunt Jul 13, 2011 2:22 PM (in response to lisaellensegal)Lisa,
First, thank you for the kind words.
Next, thank you for the info on the USB scanner. I had not read of that. Now, having a blank DVD/BD in a burner has kept Encore from opening, but this is a new one, and something to think of. As a side-note: if my USB Epson printer is on, Windows will not launch. You taught me something new today. I'll file that one away, and know to ask about it in the future, if Encore will not launch for another user.
For the Administrator issue, I have two Administrator Accounts: Administrator and Bill Hunt. I have both, as if something has gone wrong with my account, I can fall back on the other. Nearly all programs are installed on my Administrator Account, so Administrator is pretty clean. Now, both are Administrator, and not Accounts with Administrative Privileges - Full Administrator.
From Bill Hunt, I can Rt-click and Run As Administrator, but since that is my account type, I do not need to do that.
In the OP's case, I think that someone, with Full Administrator Privileges will need to set their account up differently, or provide a password. BTW - both of my Accounts are password protected on XP-Pro SP3.
