I drag out a symbol rom the Common Library and double-click on it to edit it in Isolation Mode. I want to change the color of specific parts of an image, in this case, I want to change the color of the circle in the RSS symbol. I ungroup it and use the Selection and Sub Selection tools, though when I select the circle, it selects all of the artwork. How do you do this?
You shouldn't need to ungroup the symbol.. Just switch to symbol editing mode and use the subselection tool to access the individual parts.

If you've ungrouped the elements, look in your layers panel.
Those three shapes are ONE shape, part of a composite path. They can't be ungrouped or subselected in the usual manner.
Select the path
Open the Path panel
Choose Split Paths from the Combine Paths section of the panel.
This breaks all three shapes into separate paths
