    Default Illustrator Symbols

    Ratko Asanovic Community Member

      Hello guys,

Well most of my time i deal with pre press stuff, illustrations both for print and web. Thing is that I know how to make custom symbols palette and and how to load them so they are listed in Symbols list when I am browsing for some. What is troubling me is that when I open a new document I get some default set of symbols which I don't want. I want my custom made symbols load as default symbols anytime I create new document. So is there a way to accomplish that? From what I have concluded default set is not located in Presets>Symbols folder. What I think is that default symbols are "called" programatically or maybe is other way of calling them.

Besdies I use Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Illustrator CS5.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You will have to edit the default document templates for anything to load automatically. It's the same as with specific swatches, brushes etc.. Open the templeate files from the AI directory and your user directory, open whatever symbol sets you want default, save. Every new document based on that template should now use your customized symbols, swatches etc. as the defaults.

Many thanks Mylenium for your answer.

I have already came up on that idea to change/made New Document Profile and to load custom symbols in it. So when I am opening new document i will have it listed and it will load my custom symbols but is tied to some size which of course I can change it by changing the Artboard size.

I don't know why I didn't done in same fashion for other Illustrator document profiles. Maybe I wasn't focused enough

Besides how I edit to put the "correct answer" for you te get more points since I in rush clicked on other button?

Once again many thanks for the help!
