Hello,

I'm working on merged projects for made one CHM for a software.
I manage to merge the several chm, but now I've got a another problem with the topics ID I use to call help in the application.

I create a file Map-ID for all my .chm, but I don't know how to use it from my principal .chm.
- Do I must create only one file Map-ID for all the .chm ?
- Do I must use all the Map-ID of all the ;chm and call them from my principal .chm ?

If somebody can help me for that.
Thanks a lot.

Hi vlavergne. The call from the application uses the CHM file name to identify the topic to display. Therefore you need to have a map file for each CHM to pass to your developers.

Hi Colum,

Actually, I've got several chm and a master chm : merged projects.
I made individual map ID file for all of the sub projects and the master project.
But I don't know how use all these map id files with the software. :(

For the moment I give a unique number of all my topics, and I try to call them from the application with this number.
But, do I include the nam of chm in the topic's ID ?
I want to understand the method to call the topic include in a sub project from the application.

If you've got more information about this, let me know! :)
Thanks

OK. First off the disclaimer. I'm not a developer so am unsure how the call is made. I do know that a the call differs depending on the application involved (e.g. VB6, VB.NET, etc.). As CSH normally only displays the topic contents, using the CHM file name is required. Do you have a developer you can ask for the syntax. Failing that Google?

vlavergne,

This area of HTML Help deployment is a little tricky. You can either channel all the context help calls through the master help file, as described here:

http://helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge.htm#ContextHelpIDs
http://helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge_ctx2.htm

or you can pass the calls directly to the slaves -- but you would modify their window definitions so that they open with exactly the same navigation pane as the master file. For guidelines on how to do this, see the section headed "Step 3 - Slave Windows Definitions" in the first of the two pages above.

Here's an earlier thread that may provide useful information:

http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=449&threadid=1058587

Are you using the HTML Help API or .NET HelpProvider components to display context-sensitive help?

Pete

Hi Pete,

I'm using HTML Help API.

But I have to say I'm lost into all the help I read... First because it's in english, and second because all talk about ".hhp" file and for the moment I don't work with this file.
For the moment I only merged TOC and Index in the master project, and I made one ".h" file by project.

I read help you give me ( http://helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge.htm#ContextHelpIDs and
http://helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge_ctx2.htm).
But I don't understand how to use it in Robohelp.

If you can explain to me... :)
Thanks a lot !
