I exported an xml file in Captivate 5 to get it translated.
After importing the translated file I noticed that the layout had changed.
To narrow-down the problem, I exported an xml file and re-imported it again, without opening/changing the xml file.
To my surprise the layout changed after importing Captivates own exported xml file.
I then exported the xml file again and compared it with the original xml file.
I noticed the following:
Tabs where introduced.
/g tags where not handled correctly.
How can I tackle this problem? Has it something to do with the XML Parser I am using?
Thanks in adcance for the answers.

Hello,
What kind of content does your project have? Does it have slidenotes/closed captions? Have you provided any project specific information in Project Preferences?
Which is the language you are translating your captions into?
Is it possible to share your project with me? If so, please mail me the same at sushma@adobe.com
Thanks,
Sushma

Hello Sushma,
Thanks for the quick response.
I have reduced the projects to 2 simple slides which show the phenomenon.
The problem occurs even without translating.
Just exporting to xml and then re-importing the xml file again already causes this problem.
I will send to you the original cptx file, the exported xml file, the cptx file after re-importing, and the xml file after exporting again.
I noticed the following:
After comparing the 2 xml files I saw:
Thank you in advance.

Hi Theo,
I was able to reproduce your issue regarding bullets. The bullets accompanying the text are not re-interpreted and hence they do not come up when the XML is imported. This is again the reason for text layout change.
I have logged an issue and we would work on fixing the same.
The work around for now is
1. Create content, do not add bullets
2. Export the XML. Modify/localize it
3. Import XML into Captivate
4. Now apply bulleting, alignment etc.
I could however, not reproduce the trademark symbol issue.
I would still wait for your project in order to be able to reproduce the other issues you have mentioned (Tabs being introduced).
Thanks,
Sushma

Hi Sushma,
Thanks for your response.
I have sent you an email with the project. But I just got the following message from the mailer-daemon:

Hello Sushma,
I have sent the files once again from a different account.
Hopefully it works.
If they do not arrive over the weekend, maybe you can provide me with a FTP location to put the files to.
Thanks for the effort.
Kind Regards,
Theo

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server.
Could yuo please provide me with another email address or an ftp-site wher I can upload the files?
Thank you.

Hi Theo,
It looks like the text in the text caption on slide 1 - TCaptionItem1072, is copied from a different text editor and pasted into Captivate. Is this correct?
Let me know.
Thanks,
Sushma

Hi Sushma,
I can follow your line of thinking. Indeed it is copied from a different
text editor to get the superscript.
The superscript property is shown in Captivate but not exported to xml (what
you would expect). So after re-importing, the superscript property gets lost
(just like the bullets we saw before).
Thanks,
Theo

Hi Theo,
Issues with import could be a result of copy-pasting text from another text editor into captivate.
1. Issue with Adding additional tabs:
There is an extra line added in the exported XML (adobe_test.xml) as shown below:
This extra line is actually being converted into a Tab after importing.
I suspect this could be due to some kind of formatting applied to the text in the external text editor and then copy/pasted into captivate.
Captivate handles formatting differently here and hence, you do see a new tab.
As a workaround, you could open the XML and remove the line indicated above beofre you import it back. This will not result in tab being added.
2. Issue with Registered symbol changing in size.
At the time if XML import, Captivate is re-drwaing this symbol, which is also copy pasted from an external application, in a larger size.
The work around for this is to Select the symbol and change the size manually.
I would as well check with the Engineering team to see how these workflows could be handled.
Thanks for your patience.

Hello Sushma,
Thanks for the info.
On the second slide in TCaptionItem 229, no external editor has been used.
The text here is entered directly in Captivate.
You see there that a blank line in the orginal Caption after exporting and importing again is replaced by a blank line + and extra blank line with Tabs.
You can reproduce it easily I think:
example:
caption text 1
caption text 2
After exporting and importing, the result looks like:
caption text 1
<tab> <tab> <tab>
caption text 2
So in this case no external editor has been used.

Theo

Hi Theo,
I was able to reproduce the issue with the text captions on slide 2.
It indeed is a bug and I have logged a bug with the engineering team for the same. We will be working on fixing the issue.
However, I would suggest to apply formatting to text after importing the modified XML.
Thanks,
Sushma

Hi Sushma,
I am happy that you could reproduce the issue and that Adobe will start working on it.
You can imagine that after translating a production into maybe 7 languages, it is a lot of extra work to do the formatting in all the languages individually.
For languages you do not understand, it is even impossible.
So I hope to see a solution very soon.
Thanks,
Theo
