1. Re: Trashing Prefs applicable to PS as well?
Steve Werner Feb 28, 2011 12:04 PM (in response to Canned Pug)Sometimes you have to know the right term to search for. In InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, it's called "restoring preferences"
When I searched for that in Photoshop CS5 Help, here's what I found:
Restore all preferences to default settings
Do one of the following:Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings.
(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.
New Preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.

2. Re: Trashing Prefs applicable to PS as well?
Canned Pug Feb 28, 2011 12:30 PM (in response to Steve Werner)ok Steve. In trying to figure out why things are sticking, I also
decided to run Disk Warrior and my machine wouldn't accept that cd or
a reboot disc so I'm thinking something lousy is beginning to happen,
much worse than bad preferences...:0(

Steve Werner Feb 28, 2011 12:34 PM (in response to Canned Pug)Good luck on solving your problem.
Remember that you can also run Disk Warrior from an external drive attached to your computer. That also works if you have a late model Mac which the Disk Warrior disk doesn't support.

Canned Pug Feb 28, 2011 12:47 PM (in response to Steve Werner)Do you mean if I want to clean up my Ext HD? or what did you mean?
Alsoft was telling me to use an old computer and use my curent one as
an Ext HD, and clean it up from within the old computer, if that make
sense...
hate to use the forum off topic but want to explore this without
losing the thread...

5. Re: Trashing Prefs applicable to PS as well?
Steve Werner Feb 28, 2011 2:16 PM (in response to Canned Pug)I meant, if you think you're having troubles with your current computer, attach an external drive. Install Disk Warrior on the external drive. If you run Disk Warrior on your external drive, you'll be able to rebuild the directory of your current computer, restore preferences, and so on.

Canned Pug Feb 28, 2011 7:08 PM (in response to Steve Werner)I spoke w Alsoft and they said it's just a hard drive not an operating system. Wouldn't they have suggested I try that?
No booting cd I have is recognized by computer ; Disk Warrior or Apple install cd).. Maybe I don't understand how to do what u suggest. Getting confused now ...
