One possibility with the "File in Use" is that some other program is locking a necessary working file. A likely culprit would be Windows Indexing. Do you have that set to ON for the HDD in use?

Another possible culprit would be active, real-time anti-virus scanning, or spy-sweeping software. Do you have any of those programs running?

I have observed similar with Assets on networked HDD's, and especially Mapped HDD's, where permissions are not adequate to work with the files/folders.

For any editing/authoring sessions, I recommend many of the tips in this ARTICLE.

The Vobulator and Block Planner are Sonic Authorcore modules in the authoring area of PrE (and Adobe Encore), and come into play when creating the DVD structure.
