Colin Brougham Mar 15, 2011 6:11 PM (in response to jkosmicki)Jeff,
Nice looking video and interesting subject material. But inquiring minds want to know: how did you pull the key? I'm doing a lot of keying work these days, sometimes with better results than others. I try to use Ultra whenever possible--realtime keying is just soooo nice Unfortunately, Ultra isn't quite as robust as, say, Keylight, but I'm always interested in hearing what works and what doesn't.
Anyway, if you can share the technical details, I'd love to read them... thanks!

I think that you are missing some updates. I'm on FF 5.3.1 right now.

jkosmicki Mar 16, 2011 5:41 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)I used only Keylight for the key, then a combination for Colorista 2 and MB Looks for color and grading. I am impressed with Ultra's realtime ability, but pretty much everything I do, I end up finishing in AE, so realtime is not an issue for me past the rough-cut/offline portion of the edit.

Colin Brougham Mar 16, 2011 6:17 AM (in response to jkosmicki)Thanks Jeff, sounds good. What I'd LOVE is some sort of translator that would convert the Premiere Pro Ultra effect into Keylight upon importing a PPro project into AE. That would let you rough-in and prototype an edit and key in PPro, and then get a jump start on a more refined key (particularly with difficult shots) with Keylight in AE. A guy can dream, eh?
Was this RED footage?

Colin Brougham Mar 16, 2011 7:11 AM (in response to jkosmicki)Wow--more impressed now. I'm working on a project with DVCPROHD and... well... let's just say it's not keying as well as I'd like, at least this particular shot and when using Ultra. Lots of stairstepping around the perimeter of the subject; he's wearing a dark jacket against the green screen and this is throwing the compression (and summarily, Ultra) all into a tizzy. No amount of tweaking in Ultra is fixing it; yeah, I can choke the matte, but you know how good that looks. Keylight is going to be called up, methinks
Anyway, thanks again for information.
