Stan Jones Mar 17, 2011 8:00 AM (in response to ycart1299)What version of Encore? (I don't think it matters, but good form to know.)
Are you viewing this in Encore preview, building to a folder and viewing on computer, or burning a disk and testing?

viewing in preview, but also building to DVD and Image and viewing on external DVD player and media player through laptop. (tried both ways). Haven't tried building to a folder option.

Stan Jones Mar 17, 2011 8:46 AM (in response to ycart1299)I'm playing with CS5 to test this.
I don't do slideshows in Encore. Many people do not like the feature, and complain about its limitations.
I created a test slideshow with only 3 slides. The correct way to set manual advance for the whole slideshow is to select NO slides, and then set manual advance for the slideshow. However, when I do this, what I see in Encore preview is slide 1 manual advance, the rest not, and the end action of the slideshow does not execute.
When I build to a folder (just a test method for such a tiny project), VLC media player plays slide one and "hangs." "Next" does not move to the next slide, and the slideshow never ends or advances.
The same folder played using windows media player works as it should: each slide is manual advance, and advancing the final slide executes the end action.
I have not tried burning to a disk, since very small projects like this often do not play correctly on a player.

Stan Jones Mar 17, 2011 9:13 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Well, always one for an experiment, I burned my little 650Kb DVD to a DVD+RW. Performed correctly played from a Sony player.

5. Re: Manual Advance not working
ycart1299 Mar 17, 2011 9:32 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Our DVDs are based on incorporating slides with video, so would you recommend NOT using Encore to author and switching to Studio Pro since the slideshow feature doesn't not work properly? It seems like Adobe would have addressed this problem in later versions of the software if indeed the manual advance feature does not work as it should. I still feel like i am missing something, even though i have read and built the slideshows exactly as the adobe help manual suggests. Frustrating. If anyone else has any ideas, let me know. Thanks!

6. Re: Manual Advance not working
Stan Jones Mar 17, 2011 11:26 AM (in response to ycart1299)Well, I don't use the slideshow feature, but in my short test, it worked. What you described (selecting all or selecting some) is not the method from the manual (select none). I agree it should work with a select all.
Many users have concluded as you have, that Encore is not the product for slideshows. They often use Premiere, but only when they do not need autoadvance.
So you are playing a video timeline, end action goes to a slideshow, end action to a video, etc? (Or, I assume same difference a playlist with a mixture of video and slideshows.) And you want the slideshows to manual advance? I'll give it a try.

ycart1299 Mar 17, 2011 12:13 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Hi Stan, thanks for your help. yes you are correct a slideshow will play, then a video, back to another slideshow, video, etc. they are set up in playlists. The presentations are for performance training, so the slides are ppt slides that are held still until the instructor advances to the next bit. mixed in with the slides are example scenario videos.

Bill Hunt Mar 18, 2011 9:58 AM (in response to ycart1299)You might want to look into ProShow's Producer. It's a SlideShow production app., and offers a lot more power for SlideShows, than does the rudimentary SlideShow in Encore. As Stanley pointed out, many feel that the En SlideShow feature is a bit of an after throught, and not well implemented.
Good luck,
Hunt
