ATI Catalyst 11.3 Drivers - AVOID Using With Photoshop CS5

    Noel Carboni Community Member

I recently downloaded and installed ATI's latest drivers - Catalyst 11.3 - from their web site.

In testing with Photoshop, I found these drivers have blocked Photoshop's ability to actually do OpenGL drawing in Normal and Advanced modes, even though the Enable OpenGL Drawing setting is active and checked.

I don't know if this affects all cards. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5670 card, and another user has reported the problem against a Radeon 4650.

If you have an ATI card and Catalyst 11.2 or earlier drivers, you may wish to avoid upgrading to Catalyst 11.3 at this time.

As a workaround, if you have already upgraded to 11.3, you can restore OpenGL functionality by choosing Edit - Preferences - Performance, clicking the [Advanced Settings...] button, then choosing Mode:  Basic.
