1. Re: CS5 - preview project on external monitor
John T Smith Apr 7, 2011 3:51 PM (in response to dan_hin)>given that Encore uses the Premiere engine to display video
That is not a given
PPro CS5 is completely rewritten to be 64bit... Encore is still 32bit due to the included Roxio modules
So... PPro and Encore very likely do NOT use the same code

dan_hin Apr 7, 2011 4:03 PM (in response to John T Smith)Thanks for the quick response - I stand corrected.
However, the question(s) still stand: Is this possible, and has anyone got it to work?

3. Re: CS5 - preview project on external monitor
Stan Jones Apr 7, 2011 6:50 PM (in response to dan_hin)My guess is that you can't do it, but I don't use a black magic to test it. My thought would be to try to manipulate the panels, as you would with Premiere (the traditional method for trying to get a full screen onto a second monitor). But I don't see a way to get the preview panel to do anything.
The other problem with encore, is that various aspects do not perform "correctly" - meaning they may work in preview and not with a burned disk, or they may not work in preview and work fine with a disk. So, while it does not address you previewing prior to a build, build to a folder and play that on your preferred screen.

4. Re: CS5 - preview project on external monitor
dan_hin Apr 8, 2011 4:39 AM (in response to Stan Jones)That's a good point Stan - but all I'm really trying to do is get a more accurate preview of the footage as it will look before being burned to disc/written to DDP.
It would be quite a timesaver if I could do things like check field order post-transcode but pre-burn, especially with larger projects that run over an hour.
Also our Avid has had issues with encoding fields correctly (basically it will not export lower field first) and the opportunity to check that footage after an encode would be most welcome.

Stan Jones Apr 8, 2011 11:42 AM (in response to dan_hin)Yes, I see the value of what you want, and I don't think it is possible at present.
