Harm Millaard Apr 5, 2011 12:44 AM (in response to mdubuque)Why not use uncompressed or visually lossless like Lagarith or UT?

2. Re: Questions About Export Settings
mdubuque Apr 5, 2011 8:15 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Thanks Harm,
I have not heard of those settings. That sounds promising. I had thought I my choices were confined to the drop down menu below:
Apparently Lagarith is a plug-in. I have a perhaps unreasonable fear of using plug ins with PrPro for fear of disrupting Adobe's code that they spent years labouring over. I am new to this, but I kind of want to play by the book.
Are my fears unwarranted?
Also I have this perhaps unreasonable belief that if I paid top dollar for this Production Suite it would seem unlikely that a freebie available on the Net could be significantly better than an option that Adobe would provide.
Am I simply mistaken in this thinking?
So much to learn!
Thanks again,
Matt
PS: Also the Lagarith page does not mention any compatibility with the sRGB color space, which is the color space I have chosen because it seems similar to my eyes to Technicolor. Should that be a concern?

3. Re: Questions About Export Settings
Harm Millaard Apr 5, 2011 8:25 AM (in response to mdubuque)Lagarith can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Lagarith_Lossless_Video_Codec
UT can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Ut_Video_Codec_Suite
Both are perfectly safe to install and are free. Once installed they show up as options on export.
The ones to be wary of are K-Lite and FFDShow and other codec packs.

4. Re: Questions About Export Settings
Colin Brougham Apr 5, 2011 8:42 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)On a Mac (as Matt is), neither Lagarith or Ut are options. Using QuickTime as the Format with PNG as the codec (with Quality set to a high value) is an option. ProRes would be an option if you have FCP installed, or you can try Avid DNxHD available here: Avid QuickTime Codecs LE 2.3.4 Download

5. Re: Questions About Export Settings
mdubuque Apr 9, 2011 4:41 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)I remember there was a vigourous debate here a few weeks ago about the relative merits of Quicktime between acknowledged experts in this field. That debated caused me to have some reluctance, based on uncertainty, about Quicktime.
Was that debate resolved?
Thanks,
Matt

Bill Hunt Apr 9, 2011 9:16 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)Colin,
Thanks for that. I did not recall that Matt was on a Mac, and would have answered just as Harm did.
Appreciated,
Hunt
