What Makes Vimeo Superior To YouTube?

    DesignCBTs Community Member

I'm considering opeining an account.  I've been reviewing the FAQ, but haven't seen anything that I think would help me increase my revenue.  Any thoughts?

I dont use vimeo but a friend does... for showing clients work ( rough cuts etc )...and she likes it a lot.  I think the quality is better as far as viewing stuff, but it would probably be best to yap with someone who has a vimeo acct to see what they say.

For the price, Vimeo Pro is nice. The HD quality seems a bit better to me than what YouTube offers.

Two major useful things for me:

            - Replace video: when I use Vimeo for a client review, I can replace the video without changing the link or having to create a whole new video entry. Likewise, if I notice something wrong in one of my videos later on, after I've linked it all over the place, I can swap out a corrected clip without breaking links everywhere.

            - Download video: you can enable the client to download the original uploaded clip. This can be nice if you're editing and the final piece is approved, just enable the download option for that video and tell your client to grab it. Easy.

Seems easier to use Vimeo in general for setting up clips on channels/albums. I will say Vimeo is a bit stricter with copyrights concerning music. If you have a piece with recognizable music and it is a copyrighted work, you will need to provide the documentation showing that you have clearance. YouTube just adds a link to purchase the song.

Vimeo is just stricter in general...you're not supposed to put advertising videos up there, or videos that include advertising. The exception is if you're uploading a commercial you personally created and you're just trying to promote your video business or whatever...it's definitely not intended as a "hosting" site for general use, but if you are a content creator, they allow it.

I think YouTube's channel embedding is a bit better, but not by a whole lot I would say.
