Colin Brougham Apr 12, 2011 4:36 PM (in response to thanser)FLVs--more specifically, the codec used in FLVs which is On2 VP6--can contain an alpha channel. The black you're probably seeing is the alpha channel; in other words, it's transparent. Encoding with the alpha channel is an option that you can (and in this case, should) disable.

Add a solid layer in AE - don't rely on the comp background color.

In my haste I overlooked that fact or completely forgot.

HI Todd:
Actually, that isn't true. I render out compositions with no background all the time and they render out the background color I have chosen for the comp, as it has always done. (Unless of course you are rendering out to RGB+Alpha format, than you'll have an alpha channel and the color will be ignored in apps that support alpha.)
HOWEVER, it would appear -- unfortunately -- that Media Encoder does not recognize the setting in your AE comp and automatically renders it as black.
Also, what happened to the OTHERS tab as of AE CS5? You used to be able to do a render from AE and use the others tab to set up your FTP. Is the only option now to use the Media Encoder? If so 2x
Thanks,
Tim
