1. Re: Alternate way to encode 5.1 Surround from Premiere Pro?
Ann Bens May 3, 2011 2:58 PM (in response to Webshark2000)If you want 5.1 you need to buy the Surcode, otherwise it will be DD stereo only.

JSS1138 May 4, 2011 6:29 AM (in response to Webshark2000)As the technology behind the Dolby Digital algorithms is proprietary, there are no legal free encoders out there. You'll have to pay for something to get 5.1 DD or DTS audio.

Webshark2000 May 4, 2011 7:35 AM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks. That's kind of what I figured. So, does Minnetonka Audio pay licensing fees to Dolby?

E Baldwin May 4, 2011 8:14 AM (in response to Webshark2000)There are certified Dolby Digitial Encoders that are not as expensive as Surcode but they are not logo certified which means that the user can't use the DD logo on his work. Tmpgenc's Master Works for example. Check the Dolby Labs certification list to see which ones are certified. One reason that Surcode is expensive is it logo-certified which means you can use the DD logo on your productions. Ed
