web-weaver May 6, 2011 2:57 PM (in response to bkovacs7)It will work on your system, although sometimes it will be a bit slow. It depends very much what other programs you have running that would compete for RAM.
LR on its own typically uses about 700 MB of RAM.
You should have no problem re-installing LR on your new computer, provided that you safekeep the LR Serial Number. You need that for installation and re-installation.

JimHess-ra2Osl May 6, 2011 3:02 PM (in response to bkovacs7)It's hard to know well Lightroom will run on your current system. I ran Lightroom on a 2 GB PC for a couple of years, and had no real complaints. It was a bit sluggish, but for me it was tolerable. My advice would be to go ahead and install Lightroom and see how well it works. I don't believe there is any advantage to waiting until you get your new system. There is no activation for Lightroom, and the license stipulates that it can be installed on two computers as long as they are not both using Lightroom at the same time. You could just download and install the trial version and see how that works. It is the same program. If you decide you want to continue using it on your current system all you have to do is enter the serial number that is in your packaged edition. Some users have complained about terrible performance from Lightroom. But, as far as I can tell, there is no hard and fast rule about what affects performance. So go ahead and try and see what happens.
