Reader crashes when trying to print

Please help. I have a Macbook Pro running Mac OS X Leopard and a USB 2.0-attached Epson Workforce 500 printer. Every time I attempt to print a PDF file from Adobe Reader ver. 9, Reader crashes and nothing prints.
I can print other document types, just no PDFs, and the scanner and other printer functions work. I get the standard Mac application error pop-up when Reader crashes. Within Reader, I've tried printing using the printer icon as well as 'File', 'Print'. I've tried re-installing Reader from the Adobe web site twice, and I've reinstalled the latest Epson printer driver twice as well. The printer is brand new, so this is not something that worked at one point and now does not. Epson Tech.
Support said the problem is not theirs; they indicated that the printer will print whatever is displayed on the computer screen.

Appreciate any assistance.

Have you tried printing from Preview to see if it is the file or the application?

As it is a pain for me to remove all my printers (one at home, four at work, and one at my parents house), I looked into possible other solutions.  The only thing I can get to work is saving the PDF out as a .jpg.  The document prints fine once in the picture viewer.

I am working on a Macbook Pro with Acrobat 8 (latest update)

It sounds like a driver problem... Do you have access to any other printers? If so, try to print using those and see if that works.

This doesn't really help you, but Epson Tech Support sound like they don't know what they're talking about. "The printer will print whatever is on the screen"? Hardly. The printer will print files that are sent to it, provided they are encoded correctly by the driver.

Same here, except with Acrobat Pro 8.x.x... running OS X 10.4.11 on Powermac G5 tower 1.6 GHz, 2GB RAM

Problem: Acrobat Pro can't print. I can look at PDFs and even manage Print Setup, but as soon as I click File > Print... Acrobat quits on me. Very frustrating.

Problem exists with Acrobat Pro 8.0.0, 8.1.0, 8.1.1, 8.1.2, 8.1.3, 8.1.4. I had just upgraded to 8.1.4 when the problem began...but even after reinstalling to 8.0.0, it still won't print.

I've tried the following:

1) repairing disk permissions -- did not fix problem
2) reinstalled Acrobat Pro 8.0.0 from DVD -- did not fix problem
3) ran Acrobat updates up to 8.1.3 (last known working version) -- did not fix problem

I am going to try Disk Warrior next, but otherwise I'm out of ideas. I CAN print from other applications, such as Safari, Firefox, Mail, Preview, Photoshop, Pages, Numbers, etc. Just CAN'T PRINT in Acrobat Pro (and presumably reader).

Hopefully someone has a fix soon. Can't stay out of production for long. I do know that there was some serious security flaws the past 2 weeks in Acrobat (reader and pro) that allowed some sort of virus (presumably for Windows only) that could be carried and delivered and installed via a PDF file. I believe 8.1.4 was supposed to fix this issue.

I can't reproduce the problem but from the information (avidreader) posted, it looks like the problem occurs creating the list of printers before you actually get to select one and print.  Perhaps some other printer is visible to the machine and has some characteristic that Acrobat or some other component is choking on.  You might try changing the default printer, or removing other printers or disconnecting from the network to see if you can get past that point and isolate the printer it doesn't like.  Of course, this is speculative so the problem could be elsewhere.  Worth a try, though.

i know im bringing back an old dead thread, but i have been having this problem for weeks now and just got to the point when using a differ computer was too annoying.

long story short, the guy above me is a GOD. i am on a windows 7 computer and had this problem. I read this thread, removed all my printers in the device panel, re-added the one i was trying to use (my default) and tried once more. it worked like a charm. no hang-ups no delays. right to print window and onto paper.

someone give that guy a cookie and close this thread.
