1. Re: Alternate Transcoder for HD to SD? (MAC Platform)
srukweza May 14, 2011 10:18 AM (in response to mdubuque)You can save the project as an XML assuming that you have got FCP on your system. Then you can open that project in FCP and export it using Compressor and see if you enjoy the results.
Another option will be to import the Premiere sequence into After Effects as a dynamic link project and export it from AE. The results are pretty awesome, but huge files.

mdubuque May 14, 2011 10:52 AM (in response to srukweza)Hello, I won't be using that FCP pathway.
But various film festivals only accept DVDs in SD format. So for me, even if I export it uncompressed, it's going to have to be downrezzed to SD somehow.

srukweza May 14, 2011 11:00 AM (in response to mdubuque)Yeah, I get your point. But what I meant is that you could import the sequence into After Effects and create a square pixels composition of 1024 x 576 (SD) if you are PAL, then export that for DVD authoring. The render engine in AE is worth the round trip. Try it and tell me your findings.

mdubuque May 14, 2011 11:49 AM (in response to srukweza)Hello, that's an interesting perspective, and I'm persuaded that, because After Effects has much more functionality with respect to titles, that its transcoder may well be better suited for my particular downrezzing, title intensive needs.
Thanks!

srukweza May 14, 2011 11:58 AM (in response to mdubuque)After Effects downscaling is wesome than AME. All you need to do is scale to fit comp and you are good to export that composition in SD. Tried and tested.
