1. Re: Pentax K5 MJPEG Premiere Pro CS4 issues
JSS1138 May 16, 2011 7:56 AM (in response to alexwhan)CS5 was the first version to incorporate wide support for still cameras that also shoot video. You may want to upgrade to the newest CS5.5. The free trial now includes full format support, so you should be able to determine for free if the new version will work for you or not.

Bill Hunt May 16, 2011 9:25 AM (in response to alexwhan)If you were unable to get Morgan, or MainConcept to function (FFDShow is a poor choice, IMO), then it is likely that Pentax has their own tweaked version of MJPEG. I would pour over the CD/DVD that came with your camera. If Pentax did do a rewrite, they SHOULD have included their version on that disc somewhere. It might be as a CODEC install, as part of a driver install, or perhaps installed with Pentax editing software. Sometimes, the camera mfgr. will make no mention of the CODEC, and one is forced to really search for it. If there is a Pentax forum, I would ask there, as someone should have surely installed it, and be using it.
Good luck,
Hunt

alexwhan May 16, 2011 5:06 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Unfortunately upgrading is not an option for me at the moment, so I won't tempt myself with the CS5.5 trial. I'll check out the CD and see if it can be sorted out.
Can you explain why After Effects will render the video fine, but Premiere can't? I must misunderstand something about the decoding process.
Thanks.

Bill Hunt May 16, 2011 6:50 PM (in response to alexwhan)AE and PrPro are different programs, and each does things with Assets in different ways. How this applies to the particular circumstances, I cannot say, but one of our beloved Adobe employees, Todd, is an AE expert, and can probably give you chapter and verse.
Good luck,
Hunt

alexwhan May 17, 2011 4:25 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Final update - I got it working with this codec http://www.accusoft.com/pvmjpegdownload.htm.
After a week of going mental, I can now get down to actually fiddling with the video.
Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate your time.

Bill Hunt May 17, 2011 8:49 AM (in response to alexwhan)Glad that you are now editing, and thank you for linking to the CODEC that worked for you. That might well help another Pentax K5 user in the future.
Good luck,
Hunt
