2. Re: Utilizing "Keylines" to help make titles Broadcast safe in Premiere Pro
Bill Hunt May 17, 2011 7:18 PM (in response to mdubuque)Matt,
In that usage, the term should be Stroke. In design terms, "Keylines" are thing lines, as could be used to separate a sub-headline from body text, or create a box around type/graphics. They are thin, and are often seen, when one uses a Stroke in AI. There, it means a tiny Stroke. In most other programs, the term is just a Stroke, and that is what you will see in PrPro's Titler, and many other programs. I can see the confusion here.
Hope that helps,
Hunt
[Edit] Colin beat me to it!!!!

mdubuque May 17, 2011 7:20 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Excellent, thanks fellas!
So I guess within this context, to get the best quality SD titles possible when downrezzing, I should use BOTH the inner and outer strokes....
Much appreciated!

Colin Brougham May 17, 2011 7:22 PM (in response to mdubuque)No, probably just outer. They're utility here, whereas the inner would be just if you need a specific look.
The numbers, by the way, are RGB values.

6. Re: Utilizing "Keylines" to help make titles Broadcast safe in Premiere Pro
Bill Hunt May 17, 2011 7:37 PM (in response to mdubuque)I agree with Colin on that comment. Outer is usually all that you want.
If you have any visibility issues, experiment with the Stroke, and also experiment with Inner, but both will likely mess things up, unless you have a design mission there.
Good luck,
Hunt

mdubuque May 17, 2011 8:55 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks Bill, no design issues at play, I just want to keep six different colored streams of text as sharp as I can during downrezzing from HD to SD, 1080 to 720.
Kind of challenging, but the link you provided (cited in the initial post) is surely quite helpful....
Matt
PS: I wonder if, in this rather extreme case, I should consider using another transcoder tailored for Apple? -

Bill Hunt May 17, 2011 9:00 PM (in response to mdubuque)Matt,
I cannot comment on the Encoders for Apple, but I'll bet that others can.
Good luck, and wish I could help more.
