Ralph Brekan May 16, 2011 8:42 PM (in response to davidbeisner2010)Media Encoder is the way to go. They have a nifty MPEG2-DVD setting.

John T Smith May 16, 2011 9:26 PM (in response to davidbeisner2010)Some "odd" Encore problems have been cured by doing a right click on the program icon and changing the run option to always Run as Administartor... ESPECIALLY for a dual layer disc project
Also, Long File Names or odd characters cause problems

3. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
davidbeisner2010 May 17, 2011 5:34 AM (in response to John T Smith)Thanks for the suggestions, guys... Unfortunately I am THE administrator for
the computer, with THE administrator account--and it's a PC, not a Mac, so I
don't think I've fallen prey to their administrator issues... I'll give it a
shot though. All my file names are good lengths, and don't use special
characters...
Ralph, I did end up using AME's MPEG2-DVD encoder, my only issue is that
with that encoder it won't "auto-fit" it to DVD, and I ended up having to
break the project into two dvds. Not a huge deal, but definitely NOT
preferable!

4. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
John T Smith May 17, 2011 8:39 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)Being computer Administrator and specifically tellling Encore to Run as Administrator are NOT the same thing!
The search doesn't work, or I'd tell you to do that... just believe that a dual layer project REQUIRES telling Encore to Run as Administrator
Here is a link I found... Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/771202?tstart=0

Bill Hunt May 17, 2011 9:59 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)David,
To bring others up to speed on this issue, check me out on what you have looked into, based on the thread in the PrPro Forum.
- You have checked that Windows Indexing is NOT accessing the working files in any way.
- You have checked that no real-time, active anti-anything is accessing the working files in any way.
If there are more elements that you have ruled out, please add them, just so that folk here do not spend time on them.
Good luck, and do try John T's, Rt-click>Run As Administrator, then report. Sorry that it'll take so danged long to see if that helps though.

7. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
John T Smith May 17, 2011 9:59 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)OK... since it does not cost any $$ to try... tell Encore you want to run it as administrator and see if that works

8. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
davidbeisner2010 May 17, 2011 10:02 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Yes, I have confirmed that Indexing is off, and I have confirmed that there
is nothing else accessing the file(s) at the time of encode.
It'll be a while before I can report back on the Administrator thing, since
this project has ended up getting finished already via AME and I'm in the
middle of some other stuff... but I'll try and start it tonight before I go
home and see what I get in the morning...
Thanks for your help, guys!

9. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
davidbeisner2010 May 19, 2011 5:53 AM (in response to John T Smith)Ok, so I tried running Encore as Administrator yesterday before I left work, and when I got in this morning I found that AME had completed the transcode, but when I flipped back over to Encore it had the same error message: "operating system error: number = 0x000000020 - The process canot access the file because it is being used by another process."
I click OK there, and not only is the file not transcoded, but now I can't even find the files that AME had supposedly transcoded (and said it had completed!)
Between these times I've brought plenty of files in manually and transcoded them in Encore using AME with no issues whatsoever. This is really frustrating! Anybody got any more ideas?

10. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
Jeff Bellune May 19, 2011 7:01 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)Can you post the text of the AME log that pertains to your most recent transcoding effort, the one that said it completed but you couldn't find the files?
Also, a screenshot of Task Manager showing every active process at the time of the error message would be helpful.

11. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
davidbeisner2010 May 20, 2011 11:15 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Hey Jeff, AME actually show it as completed--there is no error log for that
encode. It's Encore that's throwing the error. Does Encore have it's own
error log? I'll have to try it again later and get that screenshot for
you...

12. Re: Transcode on DL project failed three times before I gave up...
Jeff Bellune May 20, 2011 11:25 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)In AME, go to File | Show Log. All encoding results will be there unless you've erased it. It will show you the exact location of the source and output files. Sometimes AME reminds me that the file it transcoded isn't where I thought it was. I listen, because so far AME has been right. Every time.

raj2ashok May 26, 2011 2:55 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)Delete all the media cache files and transcode the DL sequences using inline AME.
