How Do You Delete the Index?

Is there a way to delete the entire index in the online help project? Or can you only delete one index entry at a time?

I suspect the index is too large and may be responsible for an error message ("There is not enough memory for this task. Quit one or more programs to increase availabel memory and then try again") and a subsequent abnormal program termination.

Hi rim127

Behind the scenes is a ProjectName.HHK file. You can open this file using Windows Notepad and clear the index that way. Or, try simply renaming the existing .HHK file (close RoboHelp first) and see if RoboHelp gives you the ability to start fresh with the index.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks I've tried the suggestion yet the problem remains. Would there be any other way to resolve this?

Hi webww,

Are you saying that you removed your .hhk file and still have an index? Since you were not the originator of this thread, what problem are you having?

The projects opens fine yet fails to compile after this message:
"There is not enough memory available for this task, Quit one or more programs to increase available memory, and then try again"

I've tried renaming the .hhk file or creating an empy one and then tried compiling again - no luck. Uninstalling/installing Tobohelp also has been done twice. The same project can be compiled with no error on other machine yet not on mine.

I'd appreciate any suggestion.

Assuming you do have plenty of memory...

Are you generating the help to your hard disk or a network?

Is it just this project or any project? Try creating a new output from one of the supplied projects.

Thanks. Every project that is generated to the hard disk pops this Out of Memory message and fails to compile. I have also run the project to the network - no luck.

have you actually tried saving any other document - say a Word file, or an Excel spreadsheet - to the same destination that the Help compile goes to? You may find you have problems there as well. Because you aren't having problems compiling on other workstations, and you have already uninstalled / reinstalled, you have to start looking at your environment.

I can save a Word file without a problem to the same location. It is possible that there is something in the environment - will have it checked soon.

Thanks

Could this issue related to a certain version of MS office Suite? I have MS Word 2002 SP3 on the machine.

Thanks.

Please confirm specifically that if you create a new project on your hard disk and generate to your hard disk that you get this problem.

If you do, zip the new project and send it to me.
