The 'avatar' is the picture of the cover of the book or the line of

description that appears in ADE's Library view. When you put your cursor on

this, a box appears around it, and a little arrow (actually something like

this: > ) appears in the upper left hand corner of the box. when you put

your cursor on this arrow, a note appears that says 'Item Options'. When

you click on the arrow, a drop-down box will appear, and the choices will

include opening the item, deleting the item, item info (publish

Your library ebook has a small file attached to it that holds information

from the publisher and the library. If you put your cursor on the ebook's

avatar in ADE Library view, you'll see a small arrow appear. Clicking on

that arrow will drop down a menu, and one of the entries 'should' be 'return

to library' or words to that effect. When you click on that entry, the

ebook will be 'returned' to the library. (What actually happens is that ADE

sends a message to the library and then deletes the ebook.)

Hope this helps!

Appreciate the response but it doesn't work for me.

Assuming you are talking about my desktop (and not a handheld device), I just don't know what you mean by an avatar. I can't find anywhere on the library view screen where the arrow you described appears.

Would you mind trying again?

Thanks so much!

that ebooks are called 'items'.

What if there is no Arrow or Little White Triangle (described in another post) on the book thumbnail? when I click on it, only a blue rectangle surrounding the thumbnail and title appears. Working in MacBook Pro (10.6.8) with ADE 2.0

Just found the answer on my the Overdrive site: on a Mac, in the ADE Library: Control-Click on the book icon in the upper left and the menu for returns and other options appears. For me control-click did not work highlighting the book icon on the right.
